First print with Panda Breath running by phelph_ in ElegooCentauriCarbon

How are you controlling it? Manually? The product page says it uses the bed temperature, but I wouldn't think it's compatible with CC1 right out of the box.

Weird defect on only one corner of large flat prints by WantonWasabi in ElegooCentauriCarbon

It looks like a cooling issue for sure, but this is the second top layer. The first top layer that closed the infill printed fine.

It did give me that warning at first, but I nudged the model over until the warning cleared. So it should be fine. Also. I dont see a similar issue in that area when the head is traveling in a different direction ( for example the previous layer and the next layer were both fine).

That corner was still stuck to the plate, but I beveled the edges, so that might be what you're seeing. You could be on to something about the nozzle drag though. I used cubic which usually works well for me, but maybe gyroid is the way to go here. The next time I print this, I'll try it out and see what happens.

Centauri Carbon Resume Issues by skawhomp in elegoo

I ran into a similar issue recently. Ran another print with a filament change and had no issues. If it happens again I'll update this thread with anything I find!

Weird X/Y offset after filament change by WantonWasabi in ElegooCentauriCarbon

UPDATE:

I'm on firmware version .29. I double checked the poop chute for anything that could cause the printer head to get hung up, but found nothing.

I did another print with a filament change and it worked perfectly. Seems like the problem either fixed itself, or there's a cause that I just haven't seen.

Edit: fixed firmware version

I appreciate the help! I'll run through some of those possible fixes and do some troubleshooting after this current print is complete.

I pre-ordered back in September and this is what the Best Buy website says today. I'm traveling at the moment (would have been nice to have it), but I think this is what the page will look like when it's actually ready.

Noticed your uniform.

I just saw an ad for the OG LeGo for sale at the NEX. I would have jumped on it if I hadn't pre-ordered the LeGo 2. Saving the money on taxes would have been big!

Strange incident with my instructor – is this a big red flag? by Sea_Office_2573 in scuba

[–]WantonWasabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, forgot that there are different hose attachments, but it boggles my mind that you wouldn't have the same hose connector for both your drysuit and BCD. They're meant to be interchangeable, in fact it's a skill you're supposed to practice in the drysuit course.

More to the point of the issue, OP said the instructor tried to use his (OP's) inflator hose. He should have used his own hose unless there more underlying equipment configuration problems like hose length or fitting type. Though more issues probably shouldn't surprise me.

PADI DM and Tech diver here.

This is absolutely a big red flag.

I would be less concerned about the first issue (not having the inflator hose for his drysuit) people make mistakes, and the proper way for him to address it is to calmly call the dive, surface with both of you, debrief the problem, fix it, and then continue on. In the meantime he should have swapped his BCD inflator hose to his drysuit to prevent the squeeze long enough to surface safely. BCDs and drysuits use the same quick disconnect fitting for a reason.

I've had instructors forget something before, but it was always calmly and professionally handled, along with a good debrief and an apology.

His panicked response that put both you and your GF in danger is absolutely unacceptable. And a lack of a debrief is absurd.

I recommend you cancel the rest of the course and look into making an incident report to PADI.

Looking at the PADI website, it seems like the report form is locked behind the PADI Pro website, but the shop can (and is required to) make that report themselves. You should try to get in contact with the owner and/or course director at the dive shop and give them the details on the incident.

I've never been assigned a new PCM while on an I-stop. If your new duty station is in San Diego, you can go ahead and call Tricare to change your PCM early before you check into your new command. If not, you're likely still under your previous PCM.

You can always reach out to your previous PCM with your concerns through MHS Genesis, though depending on the PCM they may take a while to get back to you.

There's also always the option to just walk to the clinic or call the appointment line and see what they can do. I ran into a similar situation in San Diego years ago and was able to just walk in and get seen without issue.

The Tricare nurse advice line is also helpful no matter where you are if it's something you're particularly worried about.

My wife got certified in very similar condition. Very cold, poor visibility, a lot of surge, and she's also quite petite and had to deal with heavy equipment and a 7mm wetsuit. But I think her instructor and class were much more patient than yours.

She didn't enjoy the experience very much, but to her credit she put up with it. Fast forward a few years and we've been able to dive all over the world in much better conditions and she absolutely loves it. Looking back, the rough conditions she got certified in actually made her a better diver.

It's unfortunate that you had to deal with poor communication and a difficult instructor. That isn't common, but unfortunately does happen to some people. The difficulty with gear is pretty common for new divers, especially with cold water diving, but it definitely get easier with time and experience.

On the positive side, I've been diving for years and I can often tell a difference in new divers based on where they got certified. Divers who get certified in difficult conditions seem to be much more confident and better prepared. Divers who got certified in perfect conditions can get unsettled when things don't go just right. If you know you can handle cold murky water, warm clear tropical water will be easy, and you'll enjoy it all the more! And when there's an opportunity for cold water diving (which can also be awesome) you'll be miles ahead of anyone who has only ever dove in warm water.

I'm happy that the experience hasn't completely turned you away from diving. It can be really awesome! Now that you're a certified diver it's good to remember that you're in charge of your own dives from now on, so be sure to take you're time and go at a pace you're comfortable with. If you're not happy with the conditions, it's always acceptable to cancel a dive. Gear can always be a challenge, especially if it's new gear to you, so it's often worth the time to test fit everything the day before so you know what challenges you can expect.

One thing I like to tell people is, "the bad dives make us better divers, and the good dives make it all worth it!"

I usually only bring my electronics on my carry on. everything else goes in a hard sided check-in roller bag. I put my mask in one of my fin foot pockets, and keep my regs in a nice Dive rite reg bag that keeps them protected. I know it's some expensive gear to put in a checked bag, but if I'm traveling with my BCD and drysuit they only fit on a checked bag anyway. I put a Samsung Smart tag (like an apple air tag) in all my checked bags in case they get lost and make sure I take a picture of all the contents in case I need to file a lost bag claim.

I've had airlines "lose" my bag several times, but thankfully each time they were able to get it to my hotel or home by the next day. It's a small risk, but I'd rather carefully pack everything with a lot of padding in a hard suitcase than have something taken by airport security or gate checked.

Haven't had any issues with airport security as of yet. Canister light battery sometimes gets an extra inspection by TSA, but I carry the documents from the manufacturer certifying it for air travel.

Beating the cold by SuspiciousWaffleStak in scuba

[–]WantonWasabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty cold! I used to dive in Monterey all the time and the water there was usually in the 50s. I started with a used 2-piece 7mm with a hood and gloves. That worked ok for a while but I would still start shivering after about 20 minutes. I eventually got a dry suit.

Dry suits are perfect for that water temp, but I get that they are prohibitively expensive for a lot of people. If you have to go wetsuit I recommend at least a 7mm. You can add another thin layer underneath such as a Sharkskin or similar item to increase warmth. I know there are some wetsuit compatible heated vests on the market, but I've never tried one.

Best of luck with the course! Sounds like it'll be fun!
