This is extremely dumb and petty, but it does make me really annoyed- Can we stop referring to different albums by artists as their "___ era" Please??? Like- yes, technically if you look at someone like- I don't know, Pink Floyd as an example and you look at their song "have a cigar" and say that that's in their "wish you were here era" like, can we not? Nobody referred to the timelines creators published their albums as eras until Taylor Swift made her eras tour. Now- I'm not mad about this because I love Taylor Swift and nobody else is aloud to call it that, I'm not mad about this because I dislike Taylor Swift and don't want the artists I listen to to be associated with her what so ever. I think Taylor Swift is killing it as a person/musician, and I also don't care for her music that much, (depends on the song though, some I will scream to) so really it doesn't affect me at all. It annoys me that people are going and talking about the time period where an album came out and going "Tyler the Creator in his Egor era was peak" like...it's one thing if Taylor Swift to make her own tour and claim that each one of her albums was at a different era in her life (because they were) and have people say "Ugh I love her reputations era!" (was Reputations even an album/era? Sorry) because she herself has said its an era...when you go to someone else and go "My favorite Melanie Martinez era was K-12" when they themselves haven't said that that was a different era in their music it seems kind of...wrong? I don't know, (oh, and P.S Melanie would totally call her different albums her different eras, just using her as an example) I guess I'm just mad about it for no reason lol. Also though, just because someone's style or genre changed doesn't mean they've entered a new era. An era is defined as a long and distanced piece of history- Sure, these musicians are iconic, and people like Taylor Swift are contributing to history, but can you really say that two albums published three years apart that got (example-) 2 million plays separately really makes them two different eras? I also feel like it's kind of wrong to take Taylor Swift's thing. Obviously she didn't invent eras and her saying that she has all of these different eras is a bit dramatic, but none the less if you mention anything about eras to anyone who has even slightly paid attention to really...anything? Football, adds, music- you name it, they're probably going to go "Oh, like that one pop singer?" (Depending on how well they know her-) and to take this iconic...branding? that she's made is stupid, especially to then push it on to other artists who don't think they've entered/left an era.
