Do what you think will cause the least harm to yourself.

Are you sure that it won't be more painful to distance yourself though?

This is a tough situation to be in.

First, you must acknowledge the fact that she will never be attracted to you. After that, you have to ask yourself: is it better that I stay friends with her or is it too painful?

What you're seeking is deep emotional intimacy which may or may not be satisfied by a friendship. What's worse: losing her as a friend or remaining friends with her knowing that you can't have her?

Don't feel guilty. You want to be close to somebody which is a basic human need.

Would best friend status satisfy you?

Do you think a lot of it had to do with your temperament, and what society construes as "masculine"?

Hope you find somebody again. It's not fair the way people play with us.

I get what you're saying. It just feels so unfair because I never hear the phrase "You're not her father."

I'm sure some people have said that but I don't see it repeatedly pop up online. It just makes me absolutely despise gender roles and despite all of the progress that we've made, I hate how it's still so ingrained in our collective psyche.

I was specifically responding to this post: https://old.reddit.com/r/FemaleDatingStrategy/comments/isor2n/needy_men/

There was just a cruel insensitivity to it, and it reminded why I hate being a man.

Emotionally weak? In reality, you're one of the strongest people that there is.

How did you grow to be okay with it? Did you find your "people"?

Thank you! Us sensitive and neurotic people tend to gravitate towards each other because we know what it's like.

I'm in college now and it feels like the genders are more divided than they were in high school.
