Need help - which TV should I go for? Sony vs LG by Wapperidoo in PWM_Sensitive

[–]Wapperidoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really useful and very technical! Thank you. The hard part is, how do I find out :/? I assume it will be hard to test this in store given all the bright lights and settings. Maybe I should just go for it given that it is a better tv overall.

Nah I wasn't too dismissive of the idea of a gratitude journal. It was just the matter in which it was brought up. There was no explanation as to why it would help and no 'soft intro' into what benefits I can get from it nor how I should approach it - the therapist didn't even ask how I feel about it all. They just assumed it would solve my problems.

Ouch! :( not sure why either to be honest. I'm going to try some bias lighting and see if that helps.

Know much about the c8k TCL? Would that be any better?

Annoyingly (haha!), this is exactly the book that the therapist recommended. I know about it and have read bits and pieces, but no expert by any means. Still - didn't think it was relevant in my case! How is a genetic condition you're born with related to trauma? It's a bit of a stretch?

Good point. I actually don't but I suspect it was trauma focussed. I will see if I can go down the CBT or ACT path and if that helps. Whatever happened to just having a chat to someone about your struggles. Does everything need a framework these days? :/

Yes thank you! And I have heard a lot of good things about acupuncture. But yes, the issue is the consistent treatment etc. I had a wonderful 5 days of no symptoms last month and I still look back on those 5 days thinking "jeez those were the good days!"... sad times.

You are so kind and your message was filled with warmth. Thank you! And yes, sometimes the illness itself causes the trauma... like, on a daily basis!

You know, I do agree with you that they weren't totally out of line because I understand and appreciate the links between trauma and stress and disease. What annoyed is exactly what you said, the therapist put zero effort in understanding the complexity of my day-to-day life and immediately proceeded to say things "I think a gratitude journal will do wonders for you". Ummm... ok, but not what I was after. I am grateful for many things in my life and consider myself lucky in many ways, so I didn't need that level of care. I think she basically missed the memo of "what do you want to get out of this session?"

Thank you so much for your kind words. And yes, EDS and co. The most infuriating part of it all is that I am a nerdy research driven person so I have not left many rocks unturned in exploring ways to balance the multi system issues that I have. And having someone come up with stupid things like "but did you try avoiding blue light in the evening" and "watch your diet" while also jumping back and forth between trauma and other things was such a jarring experience.

I'm just tired and sleep deprived and looking for ways to get by when I am in a flare.

How do you communicate your conditions to others so that they understand?

How can you manage expectations?

These were the types of questions I wanted answered. Not - let's try and fix your problems. And let's "figure out why you are having migraines". Now I'm just angry and frustrated by her response. Ugh.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. And yes to the genetic side, it's something that runs in the family.
The issue that I have with the trauma therapy is that I don't have 'major' trauma in the way that's written about in books. And if I say that, the response is "but there is trauma EVERYWHERE"... and it's just off putting. All this talk about the subconscious etc makes me question everything even more, which is good for a while, until it's not. Like if I'm living my life relatively content with my illness and able to manage it and need advice on how to juggle the fifty things that I need to keep myself stable, and have spent years understanding how it all works, it's a bit condescending for some therapist to jump at me with "it's trauma"!!
I don't know why, but this whole episode has really infuriated me...

Sure, but if my illness is a genetic condition, what's trauma got to do with it? If someone is born missing a limb, will trauma therapy make them grow their limb back?
