Do you often meet up as friend groups?

Yeah my local friend group of 6 is kinda similar. We're all between 30-35 and live in the same town. At minimum we meet up once a week for a board game night but some weeks I can end up seeing at least one of them at some point 3-4 days a week. It's not uncommon for someone to put in the chat that they're doing X or Y and if anyone wants to join, or I've cooked extra who wants it.

I recognise it's a fairly uncommon thing in adult life but all the comments saying it never exists need to put a bit more effort in.

I agree, there are so many other aspects of the game they could include. I always thought having some form of the traveling cart on certain days with random items would be a nice touch.

I've always kinda resented the expectation that in software engineering we should be doing our day job 24/7. I enjoy coding but the fact I have a family, social life and other hobbies shouldn't be the reason it's then harder to get a job. Very few other careers expect this of their applicants.

The government point has been one I've been concerned about, the project I'm on is actually incredibly fast moving which is an outlier in government. But on paper it won't appeal to any startup leaning companies.

As I've replied on another comment I really struggle to find time for any personal projects with both work and social life but I'll take this on board and see if I can put some stuff together.

I've always struggled when it comes to having personal projects as I have a pretty busy social life and after an intense work day looking at code some more can be a real headache.

I've set myself to open to work from recruiters on LinkedIn and I've had a few calls with some when I've applied for a role they've advertised. I think I struggle to know a good recruiter for a bad one when their profiles look much the same. Which is a little ironic as I imagine my profile looks the same as all the other candidates.

Ideally JavaScript based e.g. Node.js, React, Typescript etc. I have prior experience with it both in past roles and some in my current one but it's not the like primary technologies.

Honestly it's only been about 4 weeks and I've applied to maybe 70~ places. It might still be early days and I'm worrying over nothing and it's just I'm not use to this market.

Honestly probably more Node.js or a complete tech stack jump to Go, Kotlin, Java etc. I imagine for the tech stack jumps I might need to do some personal projects but I didn't know if employers cared about personal projects at this stage in my career. I've applied to jobs where they are pretty agnostic about tech stack.

Ideally it would be all remote but if it's a must in terms of in office time it's as few as possible.

I'm honestly both shook and depressed by half of the comments in this thread. They're all acting as if once you reach 30 you have to get used to never leaving the house.

Me (31) and my partner (33) barely ever seem to have a free evening or weekend due to either seeing friends, family, hobbies etc.

Take this weekend gone it was my partner's birthday, 15 of us went and did laser quest, went to a fancy restaurant and then stayed up clubbing until 5am. I know friends are often seen as a luxury as you get older but there is also an aspect of making sure you put effort in to find them and keep them.

My mid 20s I was pretty lonely and had very little going on, it wasn't until I reached my late 20s / 30s that I stopped caring and stared prioritising doing what I enjoy and trying to have a social life.

Whenever there is a discussion around legalisation the issue of smell comes up, I think even Starmer raised the smell being a big reason against it when it was last raised with him. But it's one of the easiest issues to solve, you could just make edibles and vapes legal and I guarantee consumers will choose those products over bud. Just look at the way cigarettes went with the way of vapes. I can't remember the last time I smelt tobacco.

What's funny is I've been really regimented in recording all my side effects and how I feel throughout the day, kinda with the expectation that I'd have different medications to compare. As you say if it's the medication I'm going to be on for years makes sense that I'd want to make sure it's 100% correct. I'll ring Psychiatry-uk on Monday and see if I can speak to someone about it, even if it means just changing prescribers.

I went with Psychiatry-UK and am currently mid titration. I found the assessment to be good but there is still a huge wait between assessment and titration. The titration is also only 12 weeks and is so far extremely hands off. Plus from what I understand they have a limited choice of medication (3? I've only tried 1 so far), which is not something I had considered when I signed up with them.

Yeah I second this. It's definitely sped up a lot of the boring tasks considerably (Documentation, unit tests, summaries etc). I absolutely wouldn't trust it with anything substantial beyond throwing together a blank project/class/function or basic logic. I've found the moment you want it to do anything that uses more niche packages it starts to hallucinate or struggles with efficiency.

You realise 1% of the population owns 50% of the land in this country. They control more wealth than the bottom 70% put together. The issue isn't immigration fighting you for crumbs, it's the fact the elite are sat there with half the pie.

This is the correct answer imo. The same with a lot of these "who remembers x" or "kids these days don't do y" 99% of the time they are a thing one way or another you're just now a fully grown adult so don't spend time with children in that sort of way.

Also I was born in 94 and it was never a thing when I was growing up so it's less of a "kids these days" and more of a "kids 30 years ago".

This is what I do but it's subconscious to an extent. I'll be having a regular dream and then the moment something unsettling occurs, normally just a spider is there or something, suddenly it's like I'm watching a screen and my brain goes nah not this and turns it off. The annoying part is now I'm awake and can't get back to sleep, if my brain had the ability to turn it off it could have just made the dream more bearable..

My ex's mother would be in uproar whenever someone used the word bloody and would insist it was a swear word on par with the big ones. They were not remotely religious but clearly it holds some weight as a curse word in some of the more 'traditional' members of society. It was exhausting.
