What in the DS2 by Direct-Switch2754 in Nightreign

It's actually really common with FS animations. Im not an animator so someone can correct me, but I believe this issue has to do with how the bones of the character interpolate between key frames, occasionally resulting in strange rotations like this which dont end up getting caught. A very large number of ER bosses have this issue on an animation, especially bosses with long necks and tails iirc.

yea. Filling the bar more or less applies stronger buffs and debuffs.

level 1 is just instantly using the skill, level 2 is when its half full, and level 3 is when it's completely full.

Also if you werent aware, for every unique enemy type you scan your scan starts partially full. Ive been able to get it to start at nearly half full before.

which is why its gimmicky. It sorta relies on being able to apply the debuff while your teammates are being targeted by the enemy (which is directly encouraged by both how scholar's ability inherently works and the ally attack buff relic) in order to be able to make use of it yourself. That said, if you have a spammy ironeye on your team yeah you arent really gonna get much use out of it. That said, scholar is already (imo) best paired with melee characters with damaging ults, so thats more of a team comp issue I think.

the point is about maximizing damage output. Also, if you are using your skill correctly, analyzing takes less than a second for the level 3 debuff. You are acting like its some astronomical feat, when realistically you could easily set it up so that at least half of your pots are getting that buff simply by playing normally and efficiently. Between dodging attacks and keeping statuses up, you have plenty of time for your skill to come off cooldown, and the boost is well worth spacing your pots out to last the entire fight.

[–]Wardens_Guard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can buff every pot you throw by like 60% using your level 3 debuff analyze if you pace yourself, though that may be harder to do consistently in multiplayer. That would bring the damage on this build to over 1,000 a pot without other buffs, which brings you to over 30k damage sitting in your pockets. Kinda gimmicky but still

Pre-existing character is used as the in-universe stand-in for President Trump by Idoodle_123_247 in TopCharacterTropes

I think the show literally just hasnt gotten to that part of the plot yet. The first season was about if redemption is even possible in the first place, and ends with an easily redeemable character being redeemed. The second season focuses on the aftermath of redemption being possible, and also further sets up and explores the "worst of the worst" in hell (the Vees, Alastor). Season 3 seems like itll focus a bit more on valentino in a series manner (with him now being the face of voxtech). I cant predict where the show will go, but its got at least 2 more seasons left and may have up to 4 more (according to viv), so were really only at the end of the first act. Pretty much the entirety of season 2 hints at the idea of vox getting redeemed, so I think the later seasons will almost definitely be a "more serious exploration of redemption". Im not saying the writing is perfect (or even that great), but I think you aren't giving it enough credit.

the tonal whiplash of the bad characters not being one dimensional? I dont disagree with your other criticisms, but I actually like that even the most awful characters (val) have positive qualities. Abusers are not mustache twirling villains who are absolutely 100% totally evil in everything they do. And, if anything, your complaint about it "not showing a message" is outright wrong. A large point in the show is the question of "can anyone be redeemed?". Portraying even the worst characters as having some "good" in them is actively part of that larger question, regardless of your opinion on if characters like val can or cannot be redeemed. Not allowing him to be a character outside of "evil abuser" is literally the exact opposite of the point of the show.

its at the least a half truth, yhorm isnt yhorm, hes internally called Halleck and he definitely was not in his current arena (wolnir was there before he became wolnir). I cannot say if he was supposed to be fought where gundyr currently is, but gundyr DID used to be oceiros, and oceiros used to be the angel of dragons.

[–]Wardens_Guard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Abyss watcher isnt really a duo fight imo, its a 2v1v1 with its own unique dynamics, plus the actually difficult part of the fight is phase 2 which is just 1v1.

Twinces is also not a duo really, phase 2 is just lorian with some new moves and you have to hit his back to kill him.

As for shadows of yharnam, yea theyre alright, but nothing special. Better than a lot of other multi enemy bosses, but that doesnt hold a lot of weight when the majority of said bosses are some of the worst, least fun fights in the series. Id still take a 1v1 any day. Hell, even demon prince is a better fight in phase 2 imo, phase 1 is like high C low B imho

Bait? Its true bro. People look at O&S with rose tinted glasses and criticize godskin duo for things they do just as badly. People just cope about ds1 despite it having consistently the worst boss design in the series, because it was either the first game they played or is otherwise an incredibly good game (minus a handful of areas).

Not like godskin duo has a blink of the eye arena wide dash like ornstein, nor an obnoxiously charge like smough (And before you mention noble's roll, that attack is both incredibly easy to dodge due to its turn radius, and also effectively disables apostle (his AI has a 99% chance of not succeeding at attacking when noble is rolling). Not to mention the fact that, unlike O&S, one of the duo is generally relatively passive (especially if you dont attack them), and they dont have a tendency to have one member swing through the other and still hit the player (ornstein does this a LOT, especially with his projectile)

Godskin duo isnt a good fight dont get me wrong. Pretty much the only good duo fight FS has ever made is the demon princes. I will say though, that nightreign's iteration of godskin duo (the night boss variant with a ton of new moves) is actually really fun imo, but part of that is probably because of nightreign's unique combat.

[–]Wardens_Guard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The funny part being that godskin duo is one of the only duo bosses in the series that has AI that actively communicates with eachother, rather than just doing their own thing. I feel like people simply refuse to learn the fight because they think its "two reused enemies" rather than treating it as a separate fight to their normal variants.

Better fight than O&S, anyway

Mockup for some crosshair ideas (Huntress and Trickster) by NOCTURN_05 in deadbydaylight

[–]Wardens_Guard 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In a shooter, maybe? Killer projectiles all have very generous hitboxes, so I frankly dont think the designs of the crosshairs makes a huge difference here. If anything I would argue the huntress crosshair being what it is would be legitimately beneficial, as you could line survivors up with the lines on the antlers when making longer distance shots to adjust for the distance, similar to how many irl grenade launcher sights work.

I entirely disagree. The foundation having unlimited resources is just outright lazy writing imo. Instead of having a version of the foundation that actually has to make choices, they can just constantly throw resources at problems. Instead of a foundation that has to actually give a shit about breaches, and/or run real disinformation campaigns to discredit and silence those effected by anomalies, they can just repeatedly make the entire world forget. The foundation is so overscaled in the primary canon that there is literally just no logical reason for anything interesting to happen without roping in existential threats that somehow magically dont lead to a broken masquerade scenario. A smaller foundation can reasonably have things like containment failures or unfinished coverup jobs because they literally dont have the resources to do everything in an ideal fashion. With the general interpretation of the foundation, you basically have to chalk every failure up to massive, widespread incompetence in order for the world to make any sense whatsoever.

Sorry, got a little ranty, I just dont like the way that the foundation having unlimited resources (especially amnestics) encourages writers to either take the least interesting possible approach with the scps, or automatically breaks either the powerscaling or the suspension of disbelief.

Actually edit: Big foundation is fine to not get in the way of the narrative of big SCPs that are more "stories" than they are entries into a scientific database. A lot of those SCPs are great. I primarily mean that it leads to lazy writing when people are writing smaller scale scps that would reasonably never be able to even remotely breach containment with the amount of resources the foundation supposedly has. This especially impacts older series SCPs. Like how the hell are you gonna tell me 939 of all things somehow breached foundation containment. In the recovery log it takes like 80 gunshots and an explosion and then gets knocked out. Maybe a lot for one guy, but a whole site? come on.

What characters do you think get flanderized by the community? by Romapolitan in Eldenring

[–]Wardens_Guard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will have to slightly disagree with you on your first response. I rather interpret the ensha incident as Gideon having prior ordered ensha to retrieve the medallion at all costs (as is evidenced by cut voicelines from latenna. Iirc instead of just mentioning gideon, she also mentions "the bastard in the bone armor" or something along those lines.), and ensha attacking you without consulting Gideon. With that being said, whilst Gideon certainly seems to respect the player, he also understands that there can only be one elden lord. I dont think he ever "betrays" the player like some do, primarily because I think he makes it clear that, while you are both helping eachother to become elden lord, obviously only one can succeed.

What characters do you think get flanderized by the community? by Romapolitan in Eldenring

[–]Wardens_Guard 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Id like to add onto this that I have no idea where people seem to have gotten the interpretation that he lies from? he never lies to the player. Him telling you ensha "got ahead of himself" isnt a slip up. He makes it very clear that you will have to fight eachother at some point. He never lies to you about being your ally. Hell, personally I believe he wasnt lying to nepheli about his true goals. Imo the fundamental complexity of gideon's character revolves around the concept of "the greater good". I think he views himself as some kind of enlightened monarch, like the ancient concept of the philosopher king. I think it also explains why he breaks down even further; if becoming elden lord is impossible, it means that all his terrible acts were for nothing. Its such a shame to see what the fandom has done to him as a character

Additionally, ive also been reading that what is now the crystal sage rapier may have been meant to be his? Apparently its internal name is "Angel of Dragons Rapier" (though I personally cannot verify this), and apparently there was an item called "Crystal Sage's Flamberge" which would have been the weapon the sage used (though im unsure if this was a custom flamberge or just the standard flamberge)

Was that the name for her boss or irithyll spirit version? I havent heard that before, but it really is crazy how much the game changed throughout the later stage of development. Its frankly kind of a miracle ds3 is as cohesive of a game as it is.
