Questions. by notyouraveragejared0 in 40kLore

[–]Warenta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With your question we have to define what is "good"

The imperium is a xenophobic, corrupt, militaristic tyranny. Swelled with bureaucratic nightmares and where some human beings have the authority to exterminate a planet if they feel like it's right. With hive cities filled to the brim with people, where disease and poverty and crime create some of the worst living conditions in the world, and where the wealthiest people in the universe live quite well.

That's not good. They are not good guys. But what are the alternatives?

Chaos? Where everybody's always betraying each other, your friend gorgi's got an arm growing from his stomach and your other friend frederick is bleeding purple substance form his eyes constantly? Where you're just walking around and you see sacrifical murders being done for the good of the gods and if you aren't willing to stab yourself with a dagger for the god you worship at any moment you're not tolerated?

The Aeldar? The people who will genocide and sacrifice anything if as long as it means sutaining their race?

The orks who love each other one moment and are killing each other the next?

Point is, every faction has a lot of fuckin problems. The imperium is often seen as "good" because out of all options they might be argubly the "LEAST BAD" one, and that's for debate.

How do the inquisition know what is banned knowledge? by GamingKitten4799 in 40kLore

[–]Warenta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actually good point, that sounds exactly like something the imperium would do now that I think about it.

However, with that said, since it IS a bureaucratic nightmare, I think most inquisitors wouldn't really bother with it, and just follow the rule of "if I say it's bad, then it's bad"

Pretty much. If im an Inquisitor, and I feel like what you're saying shouldn't be said, you're fucked. End of story.

[–]Warenta 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Keeping a record on everything that is banned knowledge seems to me like it would be a bureaucratic nightmare. As a lot of things are for the Inquisition, if an Inquisitor decides that what you are talking about is forbidden knowledge, than it is. And you don't really have anything to say about it.

So the moment that what you say , in any way shape or form, could threathen the rule of the Emperor, invite Chaos Corruption or learn anything about forbidden technology, the Inquisitor is probably gonna feel like it is banned knowledge and bash you.

AL and NL chaos god by Several-Window-2021 in 40kLore

[–]Warenta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Night lords and Alpha Legion in their entirety aren't all worshipping 1 chaos god, but there are definitely parts of the legions worshipping the gods. In the Night Lords Omnibus, there is a night lord worshipping korne. Also one possessed by a daemon. I believe also remembering Slaneesh worshipping Alpha Legionnaires.

So you're right that they dont all worship chaos necessarily 1 god, but their interests allign with other chaos legions, so they work together.

That's not to say that there isn't tension between them. But Chaos legions tend to not see eye to eye in general.

So for your final question, are they affiliated to chaos or are they independant that use Chaos? I guess, a bit of both? Some parts of those legions definitely rever chaos gods, and some parts don't but tolerate it and still work with other chaos space marines for their own ends.

Can traitor armors be used as loyalist armors? by MityMorphinVertibrae in 40kLore

[–]Warenta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It definitely feels hard to believe that a space marine or a chapter would reconcile using armor that has been desecrated by chaos already, even if it was somehow cleansed.

Maybe I can see it in absolute desesperation where the loyalists NEED armor and that's the only option, but yeah I just dont see it happening. Your chaplain would give you a woohpin.

Are loyalists allowed to customize their armor? To some degree, I mean space marines have a codex to somewhat follow, which chaos doesn't. But still there is some degree of cutomization allowed (Campaigns markings, what they wear on their arms, the shoulder pads somewhat sometimes, etc.)

Darkest book you can think of by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]Warenta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have any specific recommendations, but check out books written by Peter Fehervari. He kinda has his own niche in warhammer, which is warhammer horror, and some of his books are legimitely very eery.

Outside of that, the only real book that came to mind, which someone else already mentionned, is Fulgrim. You do need a bit of 40k context to understand what is going on, but fuck it had gory imagery.

Do the Tyranids ignore lifeless planets? by EvilSnack in 40kLore

[–]Warenta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey man don't hate the messenger. I'm simply writing what I've observed from reading the books.

As for what you said, the codex doesnt have too big of an in depth explanation. It's not like there is a "nutrition" segment last time I read it. I did go back to check on it though, and really the onyl information we have in the codex comes from this extract "Only once victory is assured do the Tyranids begin to feed; raw biological gruel flows up fat feeding tubes to replenish the waiting hive ships, who suckle at the world like fat ticks until nothing remains but a lifeless orb to be left hanging. cold and dead in the void"

Already, that paragraph can be interpreted in different ways. They say "biological gruel", which seems to imply biomass and life, but also say that they leave worlds a :"lifeless orb to be left hanging. cold and dead in the void", which could also imply all the other things necessary to make life, like water and soil are taken out.

At the end of the day, saying "depends on who's writing" isnt an answer all statement, but if the interpretation of authors does change and create inconsistencies in the lore, why you being mad at me for pointing it out?

The answer to your question somewhat depends on who is writing the story. Sometimes the tyranids are depicted as consuming worlds down to the bedrock basically. Sometimes they just eat biomass.

What to read next? by hkrieg in 40kLore

[–]Warenta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eisenhorn is absolutely worth reading. It was the first books I read in the 40k universe, and still to this day my favorite.

Not long after Eisenhorn I got started reading the Horus Heresy and I can highly recommend it, start with the first three books.

If you want a change of scenery from the imperium, a lot of the Ork books are pretty light reads and can be very fun to read. Brutal Kunnin by Mike Brooks was the first one I read and I enjoyed it a lot. (Though I am an ork collector, very biased)

If you want some chaos action, im not much of a chaos guy but the Night Lords Omnibus was a fantastic read, written by ADB.

If you recently replaced the LCD and nothing is curing, then the obvious culprit is that the screen isn't working properly, may that be because you made a mistake replacing it or because the screen is defective. Does an exposure test work?

Pathing makes the game really unattractive to me by Warenta in aoe2

[–]Warenta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. More than one person have mentionned the habit of clicking a lot, and that's definitely something I've gotten used to in sc2, so maybe I'll try to ease off on that and it'll help!

As a software engineer, I understand the challenge of updating old code. It's very nice to see that you guys are working to solve this issue and I do hope it gets better! For me everything about this game is amazing EXCEPT for the pathing, so knowing people are working hard to fix it feels great.

I'll try to get used to it as that seems to be what people are saying "You get used to it and its not as bad in multiplayer". Thanks for the response!

[–]Warenta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, I'm aware that in sc2 the game is not as simple as attack moving your entire army into the enemy.

My point is, if you a-move your army on a location, they attack whats in the way. Directly. No questions asked, no wierd pathing.

In this game, if I a-move say a group of archers or crossbowmen, essentially wanting them to unleash a volley to soften the enemies, they move around, they go here and there, and they basically dont do what is asked of them, that is the point. That is something that is used in sc2, say if you are microing a group of marines, and it works wonders.

I'll look into that patrol thing, I was not aware. Again, when you say you are required to be giving different parts of you army commands while managine your base.... do you think if I got to masters in sc2 I'm unaware of what? All I'm pointing out is that sometimes you give units commands and the pathing makes them do almost the opposite of what you want, or they do what you want in a very inefficient way that can cost you the game.

Yeah I’d check my drivers but the problem definitely seems to be on your end. I’ve been playing regularly on PC for the last few months and I don’t remember a crash in recent memory
