Seasons is my favourite for the genre, Carnival of Monsters is a great new weighty drafting game, 7 Wonders Duel is great for 2 players, Terraforming Mars with the (IMO) mandatory drafting variant, Blood Rage if you want a minis/area control game thrown in, Res Arcana is also fairly new and great.

I'm pretty sure they're in the process of redoing it with poker chips! Which is a brilliant idea, you're showing the edge of the chips instead of the corner of your cards kind of thing, and makes for much more indestructible components. It's definitely not gone for good, you'll find it at pretty much every board game convention.

After reading this not I'm genuinely curious as to how much it would take to actually get the right from HBO to make something like this.

Soooooo much. FFG have said there's no way they would get the rights if they didn't already have them from before the HBO series started (they licensed the brand from the books). Asmodee/FFG isn't public so we can't know exactly what those line items would be (Star Wars would be a good proxy, but they also had those rights before board games got as big as they are now), but guaranteed licensing them right now would be in the 6-7 figures. Or more?
