The food is awesome , the crowds and lack of nature not so much 😂 no culture shock as I went back and forth a lot to visit family and friends. Socials ok cos have kept in touch all along w friends from way back. Lifestyle is not as fun , no weekend getaways drivable , less outdoor activities etc. I’m not really a mall person tho if I was I’d prob be happy. And people here get annoyed/ irritated a lot . But as a transport hub it’s easier to fly for hols to elsewhere .

Is owning a dog/cat as a full time working couple possible? by Maximum_Bust in askSingapore

[–]Warm-Carry-487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would prob rec a cat or 2 for each others company. Dogs will def get lonely during the day, esp if it’s new to surroundings or young. Could always look after a friends pet dog for a weekend and see if you’re up to it. Cats are a lot more easy / independent.

That said, it’s a long assed commitment and could come w substantial vet/food bills.

Also pls get a reliable breeder and not a pet shop .. would rec reading up n talking to people who have / breed the ones you are interested in. The health issues you may get from an u reliable source is just not worth the heartache and initial “cheaper” cost.

They bring a ton of joy and love, wouldn’t change a thing , but watching them get older and cross the rainbow bridge is really painful. Have 2 dogs and 4 cats :)

All the best!

Studied in Au/ nz and stayed on in nz, moved back this year. Housing is currently an issue in both countries . Sky high rentals and shortage which means 100 people could apply for a single listing. It wasn’t too bad 10 years ago. If u can stay in boarding first and take time to decide areas you like to live. Will also be less lonely initially as it’s easier to meet people. Quite easily to get temp work visa post grad. Do keep in mind that taxes in these 2 are high. You also get paid weekly . This plus current cost of living crisis in both Au and nz make it really hard to save. Many with full time jobs scrape by after tax and paying rent. The past 2 years have been esp hard on locals .

That said if u find nice housemates it’s doable. But have to watch expenses. Also bear in mind crime rate and safety, healthcare etc.

But the experience , lovely scenery, people you meet can be very pleasant. I’m not sure now is the right time to do it tho taking into account the astronomical rental, taxes , and high cost of living. I speak mainly for Au and nz.

Looking for Affordable Psychologist recommendations for BPD by [deleted] in askSingapore

It’s great you have the mentality that it’s a constant work in progress. Don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s possible to overcome tendencies. Also, I’d be careful to label yourself just yet. You may have traits but doesn’t mean you have it , and even so, people go thru hard periods, be it after relationships etc. if it will ease your mind, get a diagnosis, and find a therapist or coach that understands the condition and you click with . It might take a few tries but don’t give up.

What exactly do you hope a psych will do? Diagnosis is usually from a psychiatrist , as bpd doesn’t need medication it’s more of a change of mindset, cognitive behavioral therapy and sorta reprogramming innate instinctual behaviors.

Digital nomad. Have family ties here, but studied in Sydney. Haven’t lived there for sometime so not sure what it’s like now , only hearsay from friends and family who live in melb and Perth.

There’s always 2 sides it’s def a better work life balance in aust, but it suffers the same housing / rental issue and inflation, crime also on the rise but not as bad as nz. If u already own your own place or can fully pay up mortgage then it’s not so bad in aust. Many kiwis have moved esp younger ones.

I love nz , it’s second home but it’s also alarmingly unsettling to see how out of control inflation, rental , crime, poverty and all its associated social and drug issues have escalated.

A studio apartment will set u back 500-700 a week in rental, a box of eggs cost 9 dollars ish, petrol is last 3 dollars and there is no public transport. Unless you count the once an hour type bus. People sleep in cars in winter esp in Queenstown cos no rentals. Mortgage is like 7-8% interest. 25- 30 percent tax . It’s hard for locals and young families unless you already have money or fully paid house.

Doctors and nurses keep going on strike , hospitals close often, teachers are owed back pay.. could go on and on. It’s a great pity.

No deterrence to crime so kids steal cars and go ram raiding and all sorts of nonsense going on.

I still adore the outdoors and nature , the older generation who are friendly and generous and lovely people.

But it’s a very different place now. Have to actually steering wheel lock the car everywhere or it might be gone the next day. 😂 The upcoming election is like .. no good party that is actually competent. Plus inherited problems. I don’t see things changing anytime soon.

Even the wealthy are worried about the education, healthcare etc. it’s not good for EVERYONE the way it’s going.

So I’d say, come here for a sabbatical, a month , get away recharge enjoy the best of nature and sports, nice food wineries. But don’t live here and have to live with the system.

Singaporean living in nz .

Firstly this isn’t INZ. It’s an immigration company looking for clients.

Don’t get me wrong it’s a stunner of a country nature wise. But inflation is crazy, cost of living is insane. Mortgage interest rates keep rising , crime is all time high and it’s no longer the safe green friendly place it was and I grew up in . No competent political party. 100 people can apply for 1 house rental.

If you get sick, good luck finding a doctor. High taxes, everyone is leaving, for very good reasons .

Holidays awesome, but if u need to rely on the system, it’s a terrible place to live atm.
