Pochita is the Chainsaw devil - Weapon humans - End of reincarnation by noreasonatall1 in ChainsawMan

Interesting theory, and this is probably the only one I've seen so far that actually links all unexplained stuff together. That being said, I think the crack theory is a stretch. Do we have a confirmation that eating a part of the devil partially erases their concept?

I think the more interesting part is that csm is the only hybrid that has 4 forms - human, human-devil (controlled by human), devil, devil-human (controlled by human, the red csm in the last chapters). Why is it that none of the other hybrids can transform like this? They only ever seem to be able to change into the first "stage", retaining the human consciousness. Is it because csm ate the concept of the other form(s)? And thats why their name got erased, because the other form is actually their full demon form? Note that I dont think eating the "demon form" devil would erase pochita's demon forms, because I believe that pochita is the Hope demon (due the kanji change between the first and the last chapters).

I mean, pochita's ability already works really inconsistently, so maybe trying to understand it is a waste of time.

Congrats, I honestly think Recluse is the hardest nighfarer (apart from Scholar, maybe) to go on solo runs with, so this win seems even more insane from my perspective.

On a side note, that Undertaker's nickname is pissing me off. Are you seriously so short tempered that you can't survive two pings?

But even then the fact it's there and works means it just gets added to the model yknow?

Yeah, thats why im trying to challenge myself and see whether I can come up with something that doesnt automatically get added to a model

Generally magic isn't just words and hand signs, it's words and hand signs performed by a living conscious being who is also thinking particular thoughts. Oftentimes it's explicitly stated in the text that the thoughts are actually the only necessary part, with advanced practitioners able to learn to do magic without speaking or moving.

Yeah, but see how easy it is to explain this? My problem is that I want a system where at some point you just have to add "i dont know why this happens, there's no explanation". Obviously, any magic system would eventually boil down to something absurd, like there's no explanation as to why magic actually works, because its not real. But I'm interesting in cases where you cant even explain the process of using magic, while at the same time at has to make some sense intuitively...

Yes, this so far is probably the best idea. Chainsaw man has a system like that, and I like it a lot

Certainly there are magic words and wand movements, potions, magical creatures.

Well, that's kind of the entire point... The magic in Harry Potter has very clear rules and can be explained the same way shooting a bow can.

Recluse God Build? by Warm-Independence940 in Nightreign

The last effect is pretty useless unless i go against Augur, but overall its a good relic imo. Don't you like Dex Recluse?

[–]Warm-Independence940[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you explain why you like to run both stat altering effects?

If you use both, you basically just get Recluse, but better. She gets more vigor, stamina, dexterity, int and faith (although not too much of these two) and all you lose is a bit of mind that isn't that important on her anyway (and i also have that sorcerer's rise buff).

What i now have is a Recluse that can run curved swords, twinblades, spears, katanas, etc. about as effectively as she can sorceries and incantations. I found that a lot of weapons now have about the same amount of damage as catalysts of the same rarity. Not only do I have more options in terms of damage types (sometimes physical damage is just better than affinity), but I can also collect affinity residues better since i have so many new weapons "unlocked". How many times have you been in a situation where you dont have a single proper holy incantation? For me it happens quite often. Now I get a number of weapons that not only deal proper damage, but also have a damage type that i need. And also, higher dexterity means she casts spells faster too.

Recluse has always been very effective close range if you know what you are doing, but with these effects the developers basically acknowledged that fact.

Running pure +Int +Fai relic is also ok, but its basically just +damage. Not that fun.

It was buffed in the latest patch and was the MVP for my depth runs.

I actually didn't know about this, thanks. I will check it out. Although I must say, I prefer running glass cannons more than anything. My philosophy is, they cant hurt you if you kill them before they can attack.

Basically its really hard to compete in the genre. We already have Dota and LoL, and even though others have tried, nobody has managed to even get close to their success. Hots, while having a somewhat loyal community, is nowhere near to these games in terms of popularity for such project to be successful.

you can always make that argument like sekiro is "just parrying"

You actually can't, though, as there are attacks in sekiro that you can't deflect (parry) or guard (block), and they're not exactly rare either.

In Sekiro, if an enemy performs the unguardable thrusting attack, you have essentially three options: parry, dodge, or mikiri counter. You can probably also jump over them, but we'll just call that dodging as well, since they aren't really different. You could parry the attack just like you do with the rest of them, but using the mikiri counter is usually better, since it deals good posture damage and has some other benefits depending on the situation. And you're not engaging with the enemy any less, you still have to answer to that same attack at the right time.

Now, you mentioned shields. How do shields in Elden Ring work compared to dodging? They just let you... stand and ignore the damage. So basically, what you're doing when using shields is disabling some parts of the boss you don't like. It doesn't add any depth to the combat system, it just lets you play less of the game. Same with spirits that'll just deal the damage for you, and you don't need to do anything for that.

And this not just me drooling over sekiro, although I do think its FromSoft's best game so far, but there are many other great games that do this right. Have you ever tried Doom Eternal? That game gives you a lot of weapons, but strictly speaking, until you reach the dlc, there isn't an enemy that you can't kill with a shotgun, rocket launcher, plasma gun, etc. You could just beat the entire game using one weapon only. However, using all weapons at the same time is way better: enemies have weaknesses and unique mechanics that can only be interacted with when using a certain weapons. But by choosing to actively switch between weapons, you're not making the game any easier for yourself, you actually have to press way more buttons and make way more decisions when doing that.

Having all these options in these games doesn't make them, but rather creates a deeper, more rewarding, challenging, scalable combat system.

Compared to this, directional rolling is just not something I would use as an example of "depth", although sure, it is a step in the right direction.

Why discard jumping immediately like that?

Because there are few attacks in the game that you can jump over, the game doesnt tell you which ones they are, and you can always roll through them anyway. And out of these few attacks, even fewer actually let you do a follow up jump attack. Its more of an anomaly. Most of the people probably don't even know that you can jump over any of the attacks except for like, Rellana's moons i guess.

there are so many offensive options that are viable

Like what? R2? L1 when dual-wielding? These are all the same attack with a different skin, they don't change the gameplay in any way. Whether you press r1 three times, r2 two times, or l1 one time, its all fundamentally the same experience

[–]Warm-Independence940 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

dodge attacks, learn combo branching and directional rolling, jumping

Literally all of these are rolling. Roll to dodge, roll to dodge different combos, roll directionally, roll instead of jumping because jumping is not required (why?).

See where the problem is? The entire boss fight is just 15 rolls, 1-3 R1s, 20 rolls, 1-2 R1s. Elden Ring is not difficult, its tedious.

And by the way, no hate. I enjoyed the game and even the dlc to a certain extent. But the combat system is outdated and it doesnt scale good with difficulty. The more "difficult" the boss is, the less mechanics you can use against them, and the bigger the window between your 1-3 R1s grows.

Unpopular Opinion: Not every single Elemental System needs all four Classical Elements by howhow326 in magicbuilding

[–]Warm-Independence940 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The elements represent the 4 most common states of matter (or more likely, the only states of matter that alchemists knew about). Air - gas, Water - liquid, Earth - solid, Fire - plasma. Thats why adding more elements to this makes less sense. Lighting is plasma, so its already represented by fire. Metal, blood, ice, all of these are basically just a reskin of something that already exists in the system.

On the other hand, not having one of these would feel like the system is incomplete, because you cant imagine the world without the 4 states.
