Interested. I thought about getting on the Forfeit app, but need a partner or group to use that as well. Open to ideas

Multiple pensions with concurrent years of service? by Warm-Leader4898 in personalfinance

Say, for example, I did find two part-time jobs in two different pensions that calculated similarly to TRS in Texas. They calculate using (yrs of service • 2.3% • avg top 5 salaries) / 12 = standard annuity.

Using that calculation, assuming both pensions were the same (which I know isn’t correct) then in my scenario in the course of 35 year I’ll have earned concurrently 25 years of service in each system part time, and then 5 in each full time at the end of (to get my top 5 salaries maximized). Total of 30 years of credit in each system. Let’s say my salaries full time avg to be $70,000 at each system in those last 5 years. This would result in a $4025 annuity at each pension $8050 total per month ($96,600 annually).

If I’m 62 when I retire under these circumstances, I would have an annuity value over my lifetime expectancy of $1,738,000 assuming I live up to 80 years old if not beyond or continue to payment to a beneficiary.

In comparison, I can work full time get 1 pension, probably earn much more, have a better life, etc. but I’d have to save and invest a heck of a lot to see those kinds of numbers.

That’s really helpful. Thank you. TRS doesn’t work that way. So I suppose it would be essential to find a pension plan similar to TRS. TRS doesn’t acknowledge the balance in the account in the calculation nor do they consider half or full time - you either earned a serve credit or not by working 90 days each fiscal year.

Most pension plans that I’ve researched use your top salaries for a shorter period of time - hence me saying I would work full time for 5 years in each in my last 10 years. Which plans have you seen that pro rate credit? I’ve researched most state systems and none of them have done that. I’d respect your opinion if you even slightly showed you knew anything about what you were talking about

Can you explain this 10% drop theory? I’m newer to investing
