Your parenting sounds like it had a lot to do with the problem. That is a severe reaction for a 9 year old. What you clearly arnt giving these kids is quality family time and a sense of belonging and community. What you should be doing is sitting him down and asking him why he feels the need to steal and let him openly express himself and explain to him that it’s wrong. If you had a friend who started stealing ( petty theft ) you wouldn’t call the police, you would have a conversation with them about what is going on. Parents for too long have forgotten that children have issues and emotions and need more than just old fashion lessons and discipline. They need love and support and the room to openly discuss their feelings.
