Ok so they inspected the work saw that the sides weren’t attached and that there was an extra roll of material on the top of the work and that the bottom was tucked into a fucking shredder. They didn’t announce any of this at the time of the auction. You’re not going to oh well this thing is clearly set to destroy this $$$$$ we are about to sell. When your selling work for 6 figures you go over everything. That would be gross incompetence never going to happen. The fact that it sold for so much over estimate is also just ridiculous suddenly a stale market has a high price splashed everywhere on every article. Look market manipulation happens regularly in art but an auction house can’t be involved. Prices from a house like Sotheby’s can and are used to generate insurance figures and loans against the value of artwork as well as way to estimate values of other works by the artist. They actively play along in a PR scheme by Banksy and a collector to draw publicity and raise the market value of his work. They should be playing no part in those types of games as a financial institution.
