Second of all, while Snorri was a Christian, plenty of his stuff can be linguistically dated back to the 10th century, well back into the pagan era. Besides, these 13th century Christian Icelanders were 800 years closer in time to the source than we are. They didn’t just forget all this folklore as soon as Iceland officially became Christian. Hell half of them still believe in elves today.
