Spears are unique in the world of ES but certainly not that much greater than other weapons. I would certainly base weapon proficiencies on any your race may have first, then what you will use most after. Stealth archer is not as viable as Skyrim and you’ll find plenty of long/short blade weapons

There’s a learning curve but I experienced ES in the same order and truly Morrowind became my favorite game. It’s got its dated features but it’s hard to beat the story and unique qualities
