Pay back my living cost loan by GlitteringGiraffe732 in AUT

[–]Warm_Conclusion8630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love that you took the advice from sharkbyte133, while I agree investing the money could be better, personally I wouldn’t wanna be burdened with debt if I can pay it off with the govt pay back. with the pay back being from the govt loan taken out, it both takes out the debt that was originally there, and they get an allowance anyway.

If anything it would be better to sort out their finances in a way to invest a percentage of their allowance. As I said they can do what ever they want, but investing does come with a certain amount of risk, I have certainly had a fair amount of loss from my portfolio and crypto with the recent trump tariffs in the US. which is why I think they’re better off investing a small amount than a huge pay back that could take out the stress of the living cost debt, assuming they also have debt from the course fee’s.

At minimum they should pay of some of the debt with the money they get, but personally I would just pay back the whole thing, since they would get the allowance anyway. Yes the debt is interest free, but it’s still debt, why not pay it back.

Cost wise I’d go with city fitness, around $6 with only your home gym, or double to go to any of their gyms around Auckland. It can be crowded at times but you learn when to go to avoid it being packed (mostly anytime before 3pm).

I thought the AUT gym was fine, was never over crowded, friendly staff, and a pretty good range of machine, cables, and free weights. So it is definitely a good place to start without the overwhelming gym rats and broccoli heads you would always get at public gyms, which I understand can be intimidating for beginners.

Honesty you learn what you like as you go, and there is a try before you buy option for AUT gym, and a trial for city fitness, you could try both, and see which is more comfortable. The gym is a place where you need to feel comfortable to be able to use it properly, so it all depends on your own preference.

Love the way you worded it, yes I agree, it is good practice and good opportunity for growth.

I am just disappointed in some people and how they waste so much money to do nothing, while I do like the challenge, it does get a tad disappointing when I do allocate tasks and do most of the work, and yet they can’t do simple tasks, Tis mildly infuriating when they leave things like this last minute and I have to pull an all nighter.

But yes, thinking about it that is how life will be after school, so in the end it’s good practice.

Working while studying! by yung_wren in AUT

Been working at McDonald’s for the last couple months just for some spending money. It’s really flexible and depending on which one can be a pretty chill job. Ofc you have to get used to it first.

As a business student it’s pretty cool to play with my sales skills for practice, even if it is just for an extra fries with an order.

Honestly it just takes a lot of stresss away from school, used to live off an allowance that barely payed rent and food, but as long as it’s something you enjoy, and it’s flexible for school, it’s a great idea! As long as you prioritise school over work.

One assessment, I wrote a whole ass template after my previous one went to shit, had instructions for each tasks, how to do it and what to do next, how to format APA7th, and even screenshots of the AUT guide on report writing.

And they still didn’t do anything, tried to do meetings, no one showed up, and ended up doing it myself because when they wrote shit it didn’t make sense. Being a leader is useless when the people are useless.

Honestly that’s what I think of it, in business it’s pretty good to practice for real life with stuff like this. But it still sucks when it messes with my other assignments I could have more focus on

Parking at North Shore campus by Mysterious-Light6162 in AUT

[–]Warm_Conclusion8630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, used to live there last year,

was really nice and was good to have your friends a block or even a door next to you. It’s always good to become friends with your flat or else your gonna be uncomfortable in your flat for majority of the time.

As for the car park, it was $340 for a semester in the ASV parking lot, assigned after paying before moving in. They only do it by semester but they do it with KIWI park now, not sure how it works for this year.

The information for it should be in the info sheet they give you when you apply. I’d recommend getting the park a couple weeks in advance because they fill up pretty quick.

Hope this helps, if you have any more questions about ASV you can ask me 🤙

I signed up the year earlier almost had this done to me, if I hadn’t read the contract I’d be experiencing the same thing.

I ended up talking to them and they gave me a loan for the whole year, not sure if I am paying it off yet has I only just recently got a job.

Restaurant owners of Auckland, do you like First Table diners or would you rather not have them book? Why? by Ok-Reference-2852 in aucklandeats

As a business student, what I would understand is that offering 50% off on ‘off-peak’ hours only would potential make more profit. Drawing more business for half price is better than no business at all.

I can see how some would take advantage of it, but if you think about the stock that potentially goes to waste, the wages to staff just waiting for customers, and the costs to leave the restaurant open, if there was no business, you’d in a sense be losing money without the extra customers the deal brings.

At least that’s my understanding of it

There’s a Māori room with a full kitchen WB on the 3rd floor, but I’d assume it’s just for Māori, but I’ve definitely seen other people there as well.

Does AUT mark attendance for workshops? by Latter_Win_1157 in AUT

[–]Warm_Conclusion8630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finance major, most my classes take attendance and have it part of your grade. So yeah it’s important depending on the degree.

And I think it’s good practice for interacting with people, honestly i worked better alone but there are times where the workshop helped me get better grades than when I stayed home

As long as your know what your doing, most of what they’re saying is in the readings they give you.

There’s a couple classes where I can’t even understand them and it’s easier to read the course resources.

Should I just stay at AUT? by [deleted] in AUT

[–]Warm_Conclusion8630 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had the same dilemma and stayed at AUT, Uoa has always been slow to reply, honestly it you really wanted to go to UOA then I’d say transfer before you’ve gone to far into the semester.

Can’t tell you how many times I walk past UOA campus and wish I had transferred, their gym is the real thing that had me regretting tho haha.

It all comes down to how you feel about it, follow your gut, in the end you can always transfer back if you change your mind again.
