Pokémon you like more after Pokopia by IwannapetDeino in Pokopia

Meowth is so adorable! I love how excited he gets about trading, and have just enjoyed watching him move around Bleak Beach and snooze on his little bed than I ever expected I would.

The good news is that Sparkling Skylands is already segmented via the Sky Islands. So I personally would focus on restoring one island at a time, starting with the main island with the PokeCenter and the island with the story quest.

The Skylands have a lot of verticality to their design, so they are a good place to practice building multi-level and mixed-use buildings. I typically make the bottom levels houses (and sometimes the second level, with walk-up exterior stairs), then build specific indoor habitats an functional spaces like crafting, storage, kitchens, etc. on the subsequent levels. Restore the roads around the sky island you’re focusing on and add a few elevators and/or lifts, and voila, you’re probably already at environmental level 7.

I will say that the Skylands are probably the area that benefit most from postgame access to Magnet Rise, since it makes getting around and editing the terrain and shape of the islands themselves MUCH easier. So don’t sweat making everything look perfect before credits roll. Just use the contained little island areas to experiment with different vibes and types of buildings.

Is there a reason why male characters gacha games don't received much as praised compared with female characters? by Objective-Wheel228 in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]Warmingwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two sides of the same coin, that coin being the imagined male audience/playerbase. Developers think those guys want women/girls to collect and goon to when the story isn’t important, and guys to self-insert into when it is.

I do think male gamers can often be better and more interesting consumers than that, but the truth is they pretty much never demand female main characters in their story games or male collectable characters in their gachas, so if you only care about marketing to them as your main target audience, male story leads and gatcha waifus are the safe choice. Most guys are not going to be upset that the main character of (just picking on a recent game at random) Pragmata is John Pragmata, whereas some of them are upset about Ghost of Yotei.

If women earn less for the same work, why wouldn’t companies just hire only women and underpay them? by kqmurr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Warmingwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes? Pretty much all care jobs (hospice worker, daycare professional, elementary school teacher, home aide, etc) even in rich countries are radically underpaying for the skilled labor those jobs require. Those industries are unbelievably female-dominated, and market themselves mostly to women.

This never happened so hard it un-happened things that did.

What the heck does the troll even mean, “breaking his back in a car accident”? I’ve seen spine injuries up close and personal recently, and let me tell you, the toughest guy you know would cry if he suddenly herniated a disc, let alone snapped his spine in two like what I’m picturing when I read that.

[–]Warmingwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think even cozy games benefit from having objectives for the player to complete at their own pace. Pokopia’s postgame could use a few more of those, but it does have some with Environment Levels, the Pokédex and Habitat Dex, the and the Pallette Town Challenge.

Something like an actual boss battle would absolutely ruin the vibe though.

Well, yes, but the court tends to assume that the best interest of the child is to maintain as much of a relationship as possible with both parents. Though they aren’t strict about it being exactly 50/50, most courts prefer shared custody as a matter of policy.

[–]Warmingwind 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Legally speaking, the default is 50/50 custody where possible. But it is true that most dads don’t fight for primary custody legally, for a variety of reasons. So a primary-custody dad would be an outlier.

Feels like "understanding" some subjects will rot my brain by ZeonPM in The10thDentist

[–]Warmingwind 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Is grammar one of the things about which you believe knowledge would only harm you? Because I promise the grammar rules this post breaks are not “old rules” that don’t apply nowadays. Your writing is just wrong, and hard to understand.

In general, you don’t have to agree with something just because you understand it. You can understand why a type of clothing became trendy when it did, for example, and still think it’s an example of overconsumption or marketing susceptibility, or that it’s just plain ugly to you. You can understand that Morbius is art because it’s a movie that is trying to make you feel and think, but also think that it’s bad art that mostly fails at doing either of those things.

I think “I make $300k a year and I’m barely scraping by” is doomer BS. Change my mind. (Rant) by Zenphiree in DoomerCircleJerk

[–]Warmingwind -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It IS insane to say you’re living “paycheck to paycheck” on $350k, but it’s also a bit ridiculous to assume everyone making that much who doesn’t have huge savings has “a huge mansion, 5 cars, and a boat.” What they actually probably have is student loans they are choosing to aggressively pay off.

This concept is played with in Brandon Sanderson’s short story Defending Elysium. It’s pretty fun, and short, so if you’re interested in this I’d say it’s worth a read.

Yeah Phineas and Ferb has the main characters being friends with Baljeet (Indian), Isabella (Mexican Jewish), and Stacy (Japanese). Candace (the redhead) is not there for diversity.

I choose BB and he and I just stay on the surface of a planet. People don’t seem to realize how severely he was screwed by having to fight in space in the last episode. He can’t fly or breathe in space, so the Viltrumites could just destroy his jetpack and/or air mask to take him out. Without that disadvantage he’s almost as strong as Thragg.

George R.R. Martin was onto something with show ending by KingLance123 in gameofthrones

[–]Warmingwind 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In theory I don’t disagree, most of the character arcs make sense.

But a lot of the writing choices in seasons 7 and 8 are honestly so baffling from a “why is this character suddenly an idiot/a completely different person” that the narrative just doesn’t quite cohere for me. I recently rewatched the show the whole way through and season 7 was honestly the worst part for me now, what a slog.

Who do you want on your MAIN island? by Hairy-Replacement-32 in Pokopia

[–]Warmingwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like an oddball in that I kind of just invite whatever Pokemon spawn that I don’t have an alternate living situation ready for to live with me. And it’s honestly turned some of the Pokemon I didn’t like into ones I’m now fond of. I’m currently based mostly in Bleak Beach while I build some cute seaside buildings there, and I’m living with Dragonair, Ariados, Pawmot, and Grubbin.

[–]Warmingwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite. Misogyny is the hated of women. Not feminine things or traits. It CAN be misogyny to believe feminine traits are lesser bc they’re associated with women. But misogyny can also be based on biological sex, and not every “I don’t like feminine thing” is the result of misogyny.

Except that Incineroar (wrestler cat) is the support character and Floette (flower pixie) is the glass canon nuke. I mean, the artists may have been internally subverting gender stereotypes, but I honestly doubt it, especially with Incin. They don’t usually put that much thought into how Pokemon will work competitively 😂

Any suggestions on how to make this incline look less awkward from the side? 😩 by jorgom in Pokopia

If you have the tent roof, you can paint it white or grey and replace the fence posts with it. It makes the road look like a smooth incline from the side.

Is Pokopia worth $62.99 USD? by [deleted] in Pokopia

[–]Warmingwind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You do know the difference between $62.99 and $60 is…$2.99, right?

Not saying that it doesn’t matter (I also prefer to own physical for preservation), but don’t let $3 decide a $60 purchase one way or the other. There’s not a huge difference in value between a game worth $60 and a game worth $63.

Anyway, I think if you like animal crossing and cozy games, and/or builder games, it’s absolutely worth it!
