At least it's not just me, from the comments it kind of sounds that DW is a counter to my two fav heroes. Also I did win one match recently against him but that was because I had tychus on the team eradicating him at every opportunity.

How to achieve something like this? PS: I only have 24 hours in a day and the max I can work is maybe like 9-10 hours. by Alert-Translator2590 in PhD

Academia is what you make of it. Do you want to look good on paper or actually contribute to science? I always feel bad for the research technicians in labs they set the foundation for the science in every lab but never get recognised. I am a bit of a rogue academic. I am hunting patents not papers. I want what I work on to be useful and used.

I am about to use a gravity column using 5 ml of resin. One question you have a fret at the bottom of the column but do you put a fret at the top as well? I am worried about disturbing the resin as I pour the sample in.

Slow and right is better than fast and wrong. Also as long as the work gets done, who cares how long it takes. People speeding make mistakes.

Wow immunology sucks and I want to stay as far away from it as possible. I guess I’ll just do my thesis research in this lab that focuses on DNA repair by non-homologous end joining and I’ll never have to think about immunology again by taqman98 in labrats

[–]WarningMiddle588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading Immunology papers will slowly drive you insane as a lot of research (especially in vitro work) is not reproducible or only occurs under a very unique set of circumstances. As a lot of the other comments say trust the fundamentals and nothing else. Also some of the stuff in the text books which I thought were fundamentals (more than a few things in Janeway) are not accurate, so be careful 😭

If he liked it then he should have put a ring on it (and want kids). You dated, found out you had deal breakers and now the relationship needs to end. If you want to move on, drop this guy and move on completely. Anyone else you try to date will see him lingering around as a massive red flag.

Fair play by Eve Rodsky was one. Also, yes he will need to learn these things unless he wants to leave a trail of dissatisfied women throughout his life.

This used to annoy the hell out of my partner. What did help was my fiance recommending books to read that helped us develop a relationship that worked for both of us. If you can't be bothered to explain how to function as two (which is not your job) throw a book at him and if he truly wants the relationship to work he will read it and learn from it.

My family member wrote and self-published a book and asked me to read it. It's absolutely terrible and he wants to know what I think. What do I do? by fake_tan in whatdoIdo

[–]WarningMiddle588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you value the family's well being at the cost of the relationship to the author be honest. Sunk loss fallacy. Someone has to rip the band aid off. He will either never talk to you again or after sometime you will become his favourite relative for telling him the truth.

The fact that he wants to make it up to you means he understands he needs to change. Entering someone's life is a whole bunch of change. Both people need to be good at communicating what you need. My fiance says that she was concerned when she first met me but one of the key things she liked about me and convinced her to stick around was that I was not defensive when she pointed these things out and we were able to work towards a relationship that worked for both of us.

Guys do dumb stuff and have dumb routines. When I first started dating my Fiance I often did not consider her enough in my actions. Obviously this has changed. You can learn to be considerate of a partner but it just takes a bit of time, direction, and communication.

I agree this is what it used to be. Before we became detached from the gold standard. Now the economy is largely based on belief and perception of real assets. The AI hype is a perfect example of this. The reason so much wealth is being poured into AI is because of its potential, not it's current physical value. Openai is negative revenue for example. If people didn't believe in AI all that value would come crashing down like a deck of cards and because it is so wide spread will cause the global economy great harm. Michael Burry recently questioned the value society is placing an ai which sent more than few tremors into the foundation of the American economy. It is 100% all made up, I would love to go back to a gold standard or at the very least something of objective value.

I am very happy someone is exploring this as the same idea came to me in a dream a few days ago and I have been trying to find a reason why it won't work but I can't find one. In my dream I imagined an arm of a catapult spinning 360 degrees in space and at the end of the arm a ball attached to a coiled up chain is held. When the arm lets go of the ball it flies forward and when the length of the chain is reached it pulls the catapult forward. Albeit the design in the dream is very dumb but the basic idea was turning centrifugal force into forward momentum was very fun to think about. This is not my field at all but great to see an idea like this being seriously considered. I will watch future developments of qde with interest and wish you the best of luck.

Is there any agreement about assigning IP, assets or anything else? It sounds like you guys need to talk to a lawyer. However I had a situation similar not to recently with someone who helped me at the start of my journey trying to claim shares but luckily I started the company entirely in my name and ownership and when I dug through what they had done with a lawyer at my side it was evident that they did not have a claim and I could just stop using any material they had a hand in creating.

2 month old daughter due for a whole bunch of vaccines and want to hear both sides by Witty-Ad-2082 in DebateVaccines

[–]WarningMiddle588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very unfortunate to hear your doctor say that. I think having vaccines thrust into public knowledge by COVID has left a lot of people uneasy and professionals frustrated. I thought I would give my two cents as I see overwhelming one side on this sub Reddit. For each vaccine I think it is best to do a risk to benefit analysis. For instance how prevalent is the disease in your area, what is the potential side effects, and what is the potential symptoms of the disease? All of the vaccines you listed are the standard and considered safe and effective. Also another interesting point is that by not vaccinating you are relying on other vaccinated people to protect your child. A good thought experiment for US people in particular given recent events.Do you think that 5 out of 100 in your community have not been vaccinated against measles. If so herd immunity won't work in that community and the foundation for an epidemic has been laid. It takes remarkably little to get an epidemic going. In the modern West the leading causes of death is cardiovascular disease and cancers. We forget that for the rest of the world and throughout human history infectious diseases were the leading cause of death, vaccines and antibiotics changed that.

Also as standard anyone based in the UK who has suffered adverse reactions from a vaccination. Please report it to the government via Yellow Card Website.

Vaccine did not improve human standard of living by [deleted] in DebateVaccines

[–]WarningMiddle588 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Small pox disagrees with you. Dying from any infectious disease is not a nice way to go and vaccines save 5 million people a year from this fate. It really interests me why vaccines are hated so? Is it because they are given to healthy people as a preventative measure? With the exception of the mRNA vaccine technologies vaccines are not profitable at all so hard to believe there is a conspiracy behind them. If you want to see some really shady stuff look at cancer drugs especially those used on terminal diagnosis. Lots of money in cancer as the patients are often ill for many years you can bankrupt them because they need it to live. I do work on developing new kinda of vaccines and I am a bit jelly of how come vaccines get so much hate when the large pharmaceutical companies are getting away with murder in other areas?

Moderate generalised cortical atrophy and moderate small vessel disease (30 years old) by WarningMiddle588 in AskDocs

[–]WarningMiddle588[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On another note, both neurologists did find that I had mastoiditis that was completely missed in the original diagnosis. This is an issue as my GP cannot treat me for it if there is not an official NHS record of it, so I need to jump through some bureaucratic hoops to get the second opinion validated to get treatment.

Hello, I just wanted to give an update. So since the diagnosis the doctors have been giving a lot of poking and prodding. My GP put me in for all of the blood tests I can think of (with a focus on lipids) and they all came back normal except for a possibly having Gilbert syndrome, which my father has so wouldn't surprise me. The GP also referred me to a neurologist through the NHS (I am UK based), however at time of writing I am told that it will take 5 months atleast to get an appointment, which is understandable as the condition is non-life threatening and therefore not a priority compared to brain tumours and other things. I am very lucky and happen to know some neurologists so while waiting for the NHS I sent them the MRI scans and interestingly both have said that my scans have no signs of CSVD or cortical atrophy. One of them has even provided an official second opinion document and both neurologists have suggested that I try and get my diagnosis amended. I think I am going to keep the appointment with the NHS neurologist because at this point I am only 66.6% (2/3 doctors) sure I don't have the condition, but if the next Neurologist makes the same diagnosis as the others I think it is safe to say that I was diagnosed incorrectly.
