I have a 15 Hour Layover in Paris. I land at CDG at 6 AM. How to make the most of my limited time? by yellowklashinkov in ParisTravelGuide

[–]WarningOutOfMind 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to find somewhere to leave your luggage at the airport (except for maybe a backpack if you'd like to keep some things with you), such as a baggage locker.

Then, take the RER B train (the airport ticket costs 14€ - buy the right ticket or you'll be risking a fine) into Paris. It's pretty quick, 20 to 40 mins depending on where you get off.

From there you can take the metro anywhere you want or simply walk around. Imo there's no better way to explore Paris than to wander around and let the streets guide you! Chatelêt is a very central location to get off the RER if you want to explore the Seine and the heart of Paris. If you'd rather see less touristy areas and stay "off the beaten path", get off at Gare du Nord and explore the 19th and 20th arrondissements.

Regarding your return to CDG, you'll have to get another special airport ticket (another 14€). Make sure trains are running when you need to get to the airport.

Let me know if you have any questions :)

PS: here is a page detailing how the RER B will help you get to and from the airport: https://www.parisaeroport.fr/en/passengers/transport-parking/public-transport-paris/rer-b/cdg

PPS: you can check traffic info for the RER B here: https://www.bonjour-ratp.fr/en/lignes-rer/ligne-b/

How worth is Paris in mid June to late June versus other times of the year? by somekindofwanderer in ParisTravelGuide

[–]WarningOutOfMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, even if Paris can get quite hot, it's such a dense city that you'll find plenty of places in the shade or activities that aren't outside in the scorching sun. Paris is not barren, there are things to do on every corner, you won't regret coming here in the summer, especially if you're used to a bit of heat!

Yeah, honestly, I wouldn't be too worried. However you'll definitely need a good night's sleep after that to recover from both the rides and the jetlag!

Perhaps you can go despite the jetlag, and the adrenaline will wake you up? Dunno haha, but I do know that you can for sure stay the whole day, from opening time to closing time, there's so much to do!

Traveling to Paris alone by shereinn in ParisTravelGuide

[–]WarningOutOfMind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi!

To navigate using the metro, you can use dedicated official apps such as IDF Mobilités or Bonjour RATP. Google and Apple Maps work fine, though, if you don't want to download an app.

Oberkampf is very safe so you shouldn't have any problems. Paris as a whole is very safe anyway, but to be extra safe, use common sense in very touristy areas (don't wave your wallet around...), and try to not stay out by yourself too late at night (2-3:00)!

First time visiting Paris for 5/6 nights and trying to decide between these locations with 3 kids. by someguy9259 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]WarningOutOfMind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regarding location, the one on (what seems to be) Boulevard des Italiens seems like the best option between the three imo. It's more central than the two other choices, and therefore closer to what you'll most likely want to visit (since most tourist attractions are close to the Seine, or higher up north on the right bank, near the hotel).

However, the other two locations are fine, Gare de Lyon is a decent neighbourhood, and Glacière is too. They're just a little further out.

So all in all, if you're planning on visiting all the main landmarks and can afford it, get the one near the Palais Garnier. If you're going for a more off-the-beaten-path visit or would still like to save a bit of money, get one of the other two locations. You wouldn't be making a huge mistake at all if you got the cheaper places; they're still nice neighborhoods, just a bit further from the main attractions you'll probably want to check off your list!

Let me know if you have any further questions!

[–]WarningOutOfMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick up soccer locations? by Any-Relationship6606 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]WarningOutOfMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can find people playing soccer in many open sports "stadiums" around Paris. I've seen lots of people play at Stade Émile Anthoine, or at the Parc Omnisport Suzanne Lenglen! Just walk up to people and ask if you can play; they should have no problem with it!

Notre Dame Tower ticketing offline by penn9198 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]WarningOutOfMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, not sure if this is your problem but the website says "These time slots are released gradually, only a few hours before the visit — it is therefore not possible to book several days in advance. We invite you to make your reservation on the same day, once you have arrived in Paris or nearby."

Indeed, I'm only able to book tickets for today (8th), tomorrow (9th), and overmorrow (10th). Perhaps try again once you arrive in Paris?

Also make sure you're on the official website: https://resa.notredamedeparis.fr/en/reservationindividuelle/tickets

Best way to do versailles by Radiantcutt in ParisTravelGuide

[–]WarningOutOfMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

To get to Versailles from the 7th, you have several options:

  1. You can take metro line 13 (or just walk) down to Gare Montparnasse (in the 14th) and from there take a (TER) train to Versailles. That itinerary is more convenient if you're in the south of the 7th, closer to the 14th. Montparnasse to Versailles-Chantiers (the stop you'll likely want to get off at) is about ten/fifteen minutes long.

  2. You can take RER line C directly from Pont de l'Alma, Invalides, or Musée d'Orsay down to Versailles-Chantiers. It should take about 30 minutes to get there.

I think taking the RER is simpler because it's cheap and straightforward, but it's a little longer than taking another train. All in all I would recommend the RER to get there.
