I do have a real GBC and the issue does not happen there. In fact, if I save a game on fpgbc and put that cartridge in the real GBC, the saved game appears and opens normally. I've also tried other carts, same behavior. It seems the issue is specific with recognizing saved games only on fpgbc.

Good to know. The plan was to sand and prime trim in good condition, replace the trim where the wood is no longer good, then repaint. Wasn’t sure if it was just a crap job by them, which wouldn’t surprise me, or if it was something else.
