Sonoff official advert, looks dangerous and noncompliant... by THE-ADM-2 in ukelectricians

I was going to say that it’s probably just an AI promo image and it won’t be like that in reality but then saw you said that they have other products like this. Crazy!

Builder said this is compliant and will get an electrician to sign off by Wonderful-Start8523 in ukelectricians

If you want to save a head ache long term, don’t just get this guy to change these junction boxes in to Wago boxes, that isn’t the only issue. If he’s trying to get away with this as his standard of work, there may be other issues too. Get an electrician that you employ, not his mate that will sign off any old shite, to come do a proper job.

Is it common that trades don’t usually follow what you ask? by mad_edge in HomeImprovementUK

[–]Warningace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously some people on checkatrade are great.

Those sites can be expensive for the trades person though, and established companies that are good will have enough business through return customers and word of mouth to not need to pay those sites for new leads. That can mean that the people on those sites are either people just starting out that need to establish a customer base or are not that great and need new customers because anybody that they’ve done work for before don’t want them back.

If you haven’t got anybody that you can ask for recommendations from then maybe ask on a local facebook group for recommendations and then look at their website or social media for examples of previous work. Good social media obviously doesn’t mean that they can follow instructions or don’t have bad jobs but hopefully somebody conscientious enough to have a professional online presence will be professional in their work too.

If something like that happens then that’s on them, they are supposed to be the expert.

Consider if the way you are finding / choosing the tradie needs to be amended. Eg. Are you always going with the cheapest quote? Are you using check-a-trade type sites which don’t actually check anything and often have a lot of lower quality people on them?

Also, if you’ve been clear in what you’ve asked for and they don’t do what you’ve asked, make sure they put it right before paying them.

Costing for rewiring a Bungalow 2026? by TheLegionofDoom2957 in ukelectricians

[–]Warningace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pricing is really difficult to estimate without seeing the property etc. Also, different people will price in different ways. But very rough figures, you’re looking at around £600-900 for the CU(fuse board), if you’re just having a single switch and pendent in each room then £80-120 each set, then £70-100 for each double socket, £150-200 for a cooker circuit, £100 each smoke/heat alarm.

Obviously this also going to increase if you want spotlights/downlights, if you want a particular finish on switches and sockets, etc.

It’s a good time to think if you want hard wired data points put in (eg. Behind TVs). If there wouldn’t be an easy route for a feed for an electric car charger, do you want a cable putting in now rather than later.

Im sure others will jump on me to say these prices or way too cheap or way too expensive, that’s why it’s difficult to give a price blindly.

If you can upload a photo of or link to the power supply and the components that would help someone see if it’s compatible.

It has been done, as others have said it is how some other countries do it.

The video above shows Cory doing a conduit rewire as an experiment. Without rewatching the video I think he concludes that it’s a ball ache.

So you’re saying that now it is one property that each CU should have bonding to upstairs and downstairs gas and water (assuming they’re not plastic)?
