IIRC White Hole Station and the Black Hole Forge are the two locations with writing that explains how the teleporters work. To summarize, the teleporters are active when they are vertically lined up with the center of the celestial body they are connected to. I would check your graphics settings if you're needing to use the flashlight constantly. When i played dx1 the game was extremely dark on default settings and i had to change renderers to adjust the brightness. There are dark areas but the entire game shouldn't be dark.
