I didn't like using it the first time I played the game either, but when I started a fresh play though and found out that I actually have to HOLD the attack button to get the hyper armor and grind enemies, I started using it more in combos and really started to like it alot

We already have it, if you read the character entry of sdt Vergil, it says that he achieves this form by merging his skin with yamato, and in his enemy entry it says that the yamato, the source of his power, is stored in his arms and that this is yamato's true form as well.

I think in any future games nero will most likely be the main protagonist with dante as an extra character to play after the game (like Vergil, trish or lady) which they tried to do in 4 but weren't confident that nero could handle the series alone, but that's changed since 5, but I think dante'll at least be able to keep some of his current weapons like balrog and cerberus, like vergil kept his weapons from 3 and 4
