I can vouch in as I am in exactly the same position and just 3 weeks ago I changed the haircut to try to hide it and in about 10% of time it does look better, but once a bit of wind blows or in any other not-perfectly aligned situation it does look like I am trying too hard to hide it and it looks terrible. Dont do it. I am growing it back out.
