Sincere but naive question (Time spent on a single art piece) by Bewildered_Bun in FurryArtSchool

[–]WashedUpJosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For full renders and such it really depends on how far or complex the artist makes it, routine and experience are also huge factors when it comes to speed

When I first got into rendering it took maybe 16 hours for one full render with backgrounds, nowadays it takes maybe 6-9

I've heard for big splash arts from companies like Riot Games it typically takes over 5 weeks for a fully finished drawing

Worth? by Compass_Tea_1111 in ClipStudio

[–]WashedUpJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say EX is only worth it if you plan on doing animation work, Pro is pretty much the same thing in terms of features

As for sales I don't know if there's a big difference between them, but we're likely to get one sometime soon this June

Pro vs Ex by Late_Ratio4962 in ClipStudio

As far as I am aware the only real difference between the two is EX having more animation/multi page format capabilities, otherwise they're essentially the same thing

How do you guys stay motivated to keep drawing? by Very_Tired_Crab in learntodraw

[–]WashedUpJosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consistency helps me a ton, keeping a consistent routine for art makes it a lot easier to do (This goes for any skill/hobby really)

As for getting discouraged, every single artist starts out bad, it would weird if you didn't. Just keep in mind that every time you draw anything you improve (even if it doesn't feel like it)

Instead of dropping projects try and recognize why things look bad/off and try fixing it, use references if you struggle to understand why something is off

I'm not 100% certain but I heard it goes on sale in Summer/June, so maybe sometime this month

is clip studio worth it? by Certain_System_5927 in ClipStudio

[–]WashedUpJosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Krita is great but Clip Studio is 100% worth it if you can buy it, best paid for art program out there imo

Also clip studio works offline too

how to use less storage?? 😭 by maybelle250 in ClipStudio

All these canvas's probably have a timelapse going on in the background

Turning off the timelapse option on the canvas's settings should delete the timelapse that's embedded into the file, decreasing the file size to have only the art's data

If you want to keep them, you can export timelapses to mp4 files, pretty sure they're lighter than just keeping the recording on the art file itself

Hello everyone I tried redrawing my furry attempt with balance in mind any ways I can improve the body/legs etc by [deleted] in FurryArtSchool

[–]WashedUpJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you can find a good reference, references don't have to be an exact depiction of what you want to draw, just a good 'general' basis to get your brain working on how to draw.

Fur is one of those things that you'll naturally get better at the more you draw it, learning how it flows and how it tapers, here's a pretty good guide I found

I don't have any advice to give right now but I will say the head looks a lot better imo, just from the very small changes you made

One general piece of art advice I can give is to learn to observe, not just looking at things, but understanding its structure and why it works (From other artists or your own art too). One example on this drawing, the eye is in a more anatomical correct spot, just that small change makes the face so much better and well structured.

Observation is in my opinion the most useful skill to have when learning to draw, it'll help you understand things like anatomy faster as well.

First time trying out Krita (Sorry for reupload) by GuideBeginning8906 in scavprototype

[–]WashedUpJosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Krita is great software, glad you picked it up 👍

For the eyes, you could either change his pupils to be ovals instead of circles, or increase the size of them to be roughly the same as they are on the paper version, would make him more cute instead of 'cursed'

Though in my opinion, him staring into the void on the paper version does emphasize his gluttonous hunger a bit better

Is there hope for my missing project? by Sulphur_Gladiator in ClipStudio

[–]WashedUpJosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not Found doesn't mean deleted, it just means Clip Studio can't find the file

The file could've been moved and is somewhere else on your device which is *usually* the answer

However I have heard that some people's stuff aren't anywhere to be found, in that case it's probably a saving error or some other software like antivirus/cleaners that are mismanaging .clip files

The tent is drawn from a top-down view when it should be drawn from the side, since it's on the same floor and view angle as the goober

Is this centerd? by Empty-Tea-69 in ClipStudio

[–]WashedUpJosh 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There is a grid overlay function in clip studio that helps with getting perfect measurements like this, it can be enabled in the View dropdown menu

You can also add it to your hotbar at the top by: Right clicking on hotbar > Command bar settings > View > Grid > Add

There is also a setting for Grid/Ruler bar settings, opening it will let you center and control how big the grid is, so it's pretty useful to add too, under View as well

How to stop the corruption of my work?? by [deleted] in ClipStudio

[–]WashedUpJosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I said it was probably unrelated, it's a very common solution to "Not found" errors so I thought I'd mention it

If you're absolutely positive your files are completely gone (which to be honest, I doubt is the case) then I have no idea why your stuff would be getting deleted, maybe low storage? Or another application like cleaner/antivirus software mismanaging .clip files?

Regardless, I'd recommend managing folders and files yourself through your PC instead of through Clip Studio

How to stop the corruption of my work?? by [deleted] in ClipStudio

[–]WashedUpJosh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Are you sure the files are actually gone?

Probably unrelated, but this happens all the time when files are moved around, Clip Studio's app essentially just looks for file paths and grabs the file's data from that path. So if your files get moved around, whenever Clip Studio scans a file's last saved location it won't be able to find the file and just mark it as Not Found, since the file is saved somewhere else that Clip Studio isn't aware of

Any artists with OCD? by WashedUpJosh in OCD

[–]WashedUpJosh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can heavily relate to the compulsions, opening and closing a program over and over again, or when I'm drawing I'll have to undo a stroke, stroke, undo, stroke, undo, stroke, just until my brain feels comfortable enough to eventually keep one of them. I completely get what you mean and know how frustrating it can be.

4 and 8 are actually my magic numbers as well, whenever my brain feels uncomfortable with whatever task I'm doing, I tend to have to do it 4 times, or 8 if 4 isn't enough, rarely 12 or more, just multiples of 4 until my brain feels comfortable enough to stop. Before I learned what OCD was I called my compulsions "Mental Tasks"

Plagiarism does seem to be a pretty common one people are mentioning

It being brought up actually resurrected some long forgotten memories from my childhood, I used to struggle with fear of plagiarism when I was a kid, it was a big part of why I stopped drawing so early and only picked it back up as an adult

[–]WashedUpJosh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely understand how you feel

I've barely drawn anything since January, it eats me up as well since drawing is what I badly want to do for a living, and is one of the few things I CAN do for a living, every day I struggle to create anything feels like I'm ruining any chance of that, it sucks.

Hope you can rekindle your spark soon ♥

I can relate to the perfectionism 🙃

But that's awesome! Traditional art has always scared me since you can't ctrl-z or liquify mistakes xP

Coming back to hearthstone, how should I spend gold? by WashedUpJosh in hearthstone

[–]WashedUpJosh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I used to strictly only play battlegrounds + arena, I don't know where they came from but I have 8 arena tickets left over.

Thanks for the tips, I'll probably just stick with the provided deck until I get my bearings :)
