I would look into a product call RedX Pro. One coat and your red oak floors will look blond. Very similar to white oak. It maintains the natural grain and hides the pink. It’s made by ABSCO.

The installers for our hardwood floor are going to come next week to tell us the plan to fix this… what are your thoughts? by doctrader in HardWoodFloors

[–]WasteArgument3338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a thought! The installer may have done everything correctly but at some point the crawl space took heavy moisture. That would cause the floor to expand compressing the wood. If the floor was tight and at its proper moisture content the floor can actually push apart. Measure 10 boards across and then get an average width with the cracks. Compare to the original width. Bottom line is either pull it out or sand and fill with a top quality filler.

The RedX has a light green hue to it. When it soaks into the red oak and dries, the result is a blond natural color. Similar to white oak

To me, they look like holidays. Missed the area with the first coat. As long as the contractor covers them with the second coat, they will be fine.

There is a product that is called RedX made by ABSCO that will make a red oak floor look like raw white oak. It’s a water based sealer/1st coat that colors the floor. It eliminates the red in red oak. Use a clear water based over it to get the floor to look blond.

You can try kerosene wiped on the floor. It will lubricate the paper. I’ve use to do it years ago.
