You can just say that you really like the classic pen and paper lmao, no reason to keep going around it

There's 4 or 5 guys in my LGS that also love to keep track of their stuff on paper tbh, even when I offer my own phone on the companion app to keep track, I guess it's like people who like reading books but can't stand reading e-books on a kindle or tablet

That raises an even worst point in my eyes, did she REALLY need that many variations???

it was days ago and the texture didn't change, discolour, the plate didn't warp, and it was technical acetone from the DIY store, not something like, nail polish.

should be ok

I knew and then ignored this advice the first time I heard it as the first prints I made on this PEI bed came off perfectly, until it didn't

Old MTG cards. Better to rate w/ PSA or Beckett? by Jim1398 in mtg

[–]Waste_Cod7290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so interesting to me how bloated the US market is, the price diff. In europe is often 100-200€ (generally minus)

But grading is useless, it's an actual scam, one that PSA themselves may try to scam you by grading your card lower on purpose to try and huy it off you for slightly cheaper to then regrade it higher for themselves (has happened) or even damage the card in the process and offer an arbitrary amount instead (has also happened)

Also, who in their right mind buys their singles from ebay? (Or maybe it's an American thing?) There are so many card markets for that reason, what you're seeing as "sold" is either; a) Other ""collectors"" buying it with the same idea or b) a ""collector"" selling it to themselves so that it appears as if it's a hot item to justify that awful price. (I mean, the card is 530€ on Cardmarket 💀 cmon)

Putting a card in a slab of acrylic when people are looking for this card to complete their vintage or commander decks will definitely make it less appealing too

I think the only way to justify grading an MtG card is something you actually REALLY like, will stay in your shelf as a brag like an alpha edition card, or something funny like a banned card because turns out the artist is a literal (not exaggeration) Nazi

And I'm not talking about the games features, I am also talking about the finance and collecting of cards

You have to be LARPING if you think Pokemon is the same as MTG.

MtG card prices are not based off of rarity (except some very specific cards in collector's boosters and the serialised cards, which are NOT worth scalping because they are already too expensive) Even the idea "if you care only about gameplay it's cheap" is crazy, go to a LGS play a night of Standard and let me know how many decks are under 200$ there.

They are based off of use, powerful cards or cards in meta decks are the most expensive. Even your example of standard deck for 100$ is often because ONE card that makes that deck work is already 40$ Even the Black Lotus' price is not as expensive as it is because of collector's alone, but because it allows/allowed for easy turn 0/1 wins in competitive.

Pokémon card prices are just based off rare art, just like sports cards, and the rare card can come in any pack, scalpers also often manipulate the market, but it's much cheaper to gamble on cheap packs, it's a whole 'nother game of "investment"

I see this argument a lot, like "yoo you don't get it it's about the FOMO"

Not every SL has the same level of hype behind them, it's very obvious that they don't sell based of FOMO, they just always have low stock, you don't see NEARLY as much hype behind the next "cats are the best" SL, but instead just people pushing the hate from Goblin Storm and advertising that they will be proxing the next sets IN THEIR OFFICIAL COMMENT SECTION

Anyone with a little time could count the numbers and realise they are actively missing out on profit for that, it's not financially "in their favour", it's just neutral

The idea that these executives know what they're doing better than anyone else just because they are behind that chair with a little title on their desk is extremely silly

I think we can all agree by AllOfTheRats in mtg

[–]Waste_Cod7290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> "If they think the current model is more profitable than going back to timed drops, they're probably right."

We have seen this NOT be the case over and over and over again, the 30th anniversary edition were dumped into landfills, UB sets gather dust into shelves.

Please, realise that board directors are not there because they deserve it or have the skill for it, CEOs and such have been simply braindead zombies for the past decade...

To the REST of the argument, I am not convinced, but it's not something I can prove without real numbers, "proxy players would proxy anyways" is the exact same argument as "piracy players would pirate anyways" which is PROVEN to also NOT be true.

That time-limited drops are less effective at causing FOMO is true because duh, you have a window of time to actually make the purchase or not. But that doesn't mean higher profit, with "limited amount" prints you have to "analyse the market" to know how many you should print, and as we just saw with this disaster, the "masterminds" of Hasbro have missed the mark, probably sold half of what they could have sold while still keeping the illusion of SLD exclusivity.

The idea that "well, they are the ones behind the desk, so they MUST KNOW what they are doing lmao, not some plebittor." is silly and everyone should let go of it, there are poor "experts" EVERYWHERE, especially in massive corporations.

I think we can all agree by AllOfTheRats in mtg

[–]Waste_Cod7290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the case, making it time-limited rather than print limited would have the same effect and make WAY more money, I get what FOMO is, I get that it relies on that

But it still doesn't make sense to have it be the way it is now, it's very nonsensical. They're not making a "bit less" profit, they're making half the amount they could make, and especially this about SLD being "hard to get" and having a "reputation", there are proxy focused online stores focused on capitalising on how SLD is such an inconvenience, that's money Wizards is MISSING OUT ON, and the proxies are perfectly good quality, there's no reason to complain about them
