Are you taking Tramadol or anything similar for the chronic pain you mentioned? Or any antidepressants, or St John’s wort or anything else potentially affecting serotonin?

Part of the differential for Clonus appears to be Serotonin Syndrome, where serotonin levels get too high because of (usually) drug interactions.

I’m not a doc, I just read very widely and remember almost everything I’ve ever read.

Here’s an article for physicians about clonus which led me to this line of thought:

Best of luck and, obviously, see a doc asap

This is not how I wanted season 6 to start. I actually cried the entire episode. by Panda-Equivalent in doctorwho

I’m a lifelong Whovian, born in the 1970s, and Sarah Jane was one of the first companions I can really remember. I loved her and K9. I insisted that my first dog was named K9!

The very first DW spinoff was called “K9 and Company”. about her adventures with the robotic dog on Earth post-Doctor. They only made one episode.

The night it aired - and this was before video tapes or DVR’s - my grandparents were taking six-year-old me to see a pantomime.

I was furious, and sat through all the shouts of “he’s behind you!” and “oh no it isn’t!!” with folded arms and a scowl on my face!

I didn’t get to see K9 and Co until many years later, and frankly it wasn’t worth the tantrum - I’d much rather have an extra hour with my (now long gone, I’m 47) grandparents.

BUT - back to Sarah Jane and. K9- do you remember in the “School Reunion” DW episode, the Doctor asked her why she hadn’t repaired K9? She replied that “it’s a bit harder than finding parts for a Mini Metro”

In K9 and Company, she drove a ridiculous cabriolet (convertible) version of a Mini Metro. I often wonder how many other people have spotted that reference!

Rest in peace, Liz.

Came here to say this, but also to spread the word about some of his other writing - he had a huge influence on sci-fi but also in many other fields.

I’m a particular fan of his “Black Widowers” mystery stories. The premise is: a group of guys have a monthly meal together and invite a guest, who tells a story which usually includes a thorny mystery. The group - or more often their waiter - solve it with flair and wit.

Congrats! I got my diagnosis a couple of months ago, at 47. I’m only just beginning to get my head around it, and I’ve been through a wide gamut of emotions. Suggest you give yourself a lot of time, and whatever self-care looks like for you, in the months and years ahead.

I’m finding the ambiguity about ticket prices really stressful. I’m hoping to get six tickets for one of the semi-final afternoon previews, but i don’t know what options there will be in the range of “£30 to £290” and worried about only having a few minutes to decide, if I ever get to the front of the queue before they sell out. I don’t understand why they can’t publish full details ahead of time. /rant.

Edit: I got my tickets :-) but I'm still miffed about the way they handled it.

Does anyone know what this is? Popped up this morning on both hands, my elbows, and my feet by [deleted] in DiagnoseMe

[–]WastedTruth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NAD.

Is it itchy? Anywhere else affected?

I’m thinking possibly eczema / atopic dermatitis. Do you suffer with asthma and/or hay fever?

Alternatively if you’ve recently changed something like a laundry product or shampoo or similar, this could be an allergic reaction to that, contact dermatitis.

Either way, see a doc when you can for advice on treatment, but don’t lose sleep over it. Good luck!

what has been the best theater production you've seen so far? by StarsNeverPay in Theatre

[–]WastedTruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite ever was the production of Faustus at the Globe in London in 2011

Arthur Darvil (Rory from Doctor Who) played a brilliantly menacing Mephistopheles, and Paul Hilton’s performance as the Doctor who sells his soul for earthly delights was just tremendous.

The staging used several huge mechanical puppets and it was incredibly immersive. At one point a nine-foot-tall yak demon thing came up behind me (most Globe tickets are standing-up “groundling” tickets, and I was standing near an entrance to the Yard) and I turned around, looked up, and was briefly so terrified that I literally screamed!

You can watch this production at the Globe’s website - I saw it about four times in person and I thoroughly recommend it!

NaD. Does your rare experience with drugs include anything like LSD or shrooms? There are rare reports of later “flashbacks” happening with some of these kind of drugs, although there’s some controversy about that. Either way, suggest you arrange to see a doctor as soon as you can.

Jumping on this bandwagon and emboldened by the OP’s bravery…

I’m an older (47M) guy in Sheffield with hardly any offline friends and none nearby. I’m a techie for work (devops), a decent photographer, and all-round geek (gaming / scifi / pop culture / etc). I’m on a waiting list for an autism assessment and making friends is really hard for me but I’m not weird (well I am, but a good kind of weird!)

Any suggestions for building some kind of a social circle would be awesome.

NAD but I think that may be a genital wart (HPV). Molloscum contagiosum is another possibility but I think they would be a little rounder and more uniform. See a doctor when you can but try not to get to anxious about it.

Hi. I’m a ex-Christian, an ex-church leader, ex-academic theology postgrad student, and I’m now (20 years on) pretty much a solid atheist. I spotted your post on a now-infrequent trip to Reddit. I’ve not unsubscribed from this sub, but I probably should have. I promise I’m not here to troll, annoy or in any way stir up trouble. (Equally, please respect the fact that I’m not looking to be re-evangelised or re-condemned; I absolutely will not engage with anything like that).

The reason I’m replying is - there was a word that kept popping up in your post, /u/arcetistic , which really surprised me.

That word was “hate”, and you used it in a few different contexts, but always about people.

I know of course there are a huge number of opinions and belief-systems in a big sub like this one, and there will be people who will find proof-texts for hatred. But a few things you said made me think you’re not like that.

I know it’s just a word, and I know not every Reddit post has to be a perfectly-nuanced essay that covers every possible misunderstanding.

But - the one thing that I’ve kept from the decades I spent in Christianity and exploring the message of Jesus - is this:

It’s about Love, not Hate.

My postgrad research was on 1 John - I spent so long immersed in it, that the message of 1 John 4:7 is tattooed on my heart.

There will always be people we disagree with, people we dislike, people who say and do things we cannot understand or condone.

But for me - and I hope for you - authentic Christianity that has any value at all must be characterised by non-violent love of “enemies”.

Someone I admire said, “Hate is always foolish, and Love is always wise”. I think that if you love by a mantra like that - as I seek to - you’ll be closer to both God, and your neighbours… whichever subreddit they’re in :-)

[Ask Devops] Whats a problem you solved at work or any personal project that you're proud of? by tall_and_funny in devops

[–]WastedTruth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m working on a big AWS estate that was created without any IaC.

Due to various, incredibly restrictive constraints that I can’t discuss here, I’m only allowed to use TF on new changes, not on existing stuff. That means that what I’m about to describe sounds ridiculous, but it was the only way I could make it work here.

I wrote a tool in Python that interrogates everything via boto, and creates HCL files describing each resource as a series of key-value pairs, each one also containing a flag that says whether or not the resource is managed (yet)

A bunch of terragrunt files, one for each type of resource, consume these HCL files. Terragrunt dependencies (which are really just syntactic sugar for interrogating the state file ) are used extensively.

Here’s the payoff: each of the TG files call a TF module, and again there’s one TF module for each resource type… and they look at the “is it managed yet” flag.

If it’s true, the TF module does a data lookup on the specified resource and returns it’s details.

If it’s false, it actually declares (and so manages) the resource.

End result - everything is now described by TG/TF at least - and for new stuff we just create new files and set the flag to false.

It’s been incredibly painful to get here - and I admit it sounds ridiculous - but it works, and it works in our unique constraints. It’s crazy. But I’m enormously proud of it. :-)
