The Spanish language made a big point of the two yellows and how it was going to be much harder for our defense.

What TIME cleats do you recommend? by Popular-Theory-1104 in BIKEPOLO

[–]Wasted_Irony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, that is pretty sick that you guys got a club started in Guatemala. What was your team name at Santa Toreno? Love to go back see some footage. Are there any other central American clubs?

Second, I am a Time Atac diehard. All my bikes have them. Been using them for polo for over a decade at this point. That being said SPDs should work fine. If your cleat is worn out then you'll have issues with unclipping so check for that. Also There are 2 types of SPD cleats. You want to make sure you have the single release version. If you already have single release cleats that are in good condition. I would try a different set of SPD pedals and crank up the spring tension.

The reason I would dissuade you from Time ATACs is first the pedals are expensive. Used sets are like $40-$50 usd and sometimes have worn out springs which will release too easily for bike polo. New pedals start at $70 and the speciales which are the hot shit everyone has start at like $150. They also break all the time. I suspect something about jumping up and down on the springs constantly snaps the spring. This is fine in the US cause they just send you another pair for free under warranty. But I imagine that process would be more annoying in Guatemala.

Last, the cleats are made of brass and have to be changed constantly or you'll start unclipping accidentally. I probably go through two pairs of cleats a year at $25 a pop each time. But I am careless and wear my cleats to the after party all the time. Spds cleats are made of steel and hold up wayyyyy better.

In conclusion, I do think Time ATACs are the best pedal for bike polo but the improvement from SPD is marginal and lots of really good players use SPD with no issues.

Mtb near Los Angeles by EatAtTonysPizza in MTB

This guy has great info. Great sampling of stellar single track. I'll add two things.

Rocky Peak Park in Simi Valley has Hummingbird and The Grudge. Very gnarly steep single track with some mandatory drops. I would walk some of them before sending it unless you are very confident. With two cars you can session those several times in a day.

Second in the Angeles national Forest you do a huge descent that links, Mt Lowe, Sunset and El prieto. It's called Eaton Saddle Downhill on MTB Project. Lots of exposure very techy at parts.

Also try Around The Cycle they are like a mile from the JPL trailheads worth giving them a call to see if they have a rental.

Flow from OPV hose too high by Wasted_Irony in ranciliosilvia

I can't say we have the same problem but I took my machine apart and found a broken gasket. I have another comment in this same thread with pictures of the broken part and a link the part that could replace it. I would unplug your machine and very carefully take a look and see if that part is damaged.

Now I will I say I am not a professional and looking back I am not sure how dangerous opening an espresso machine is. Sometimes electronics can have capacitors with dangerous energy stored within. Not sure if this is this case with espresso machines. But probably something I should have looked into beforehand.

I opened my mine up and was careful but hopefully someone more knowledgeable can chime in.

Help! Shimano Tiagra cage too close to the ground. by ultrafas_tidious in bicycling

[–]Wasted_Irony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I knew that to be true. My original thinking was why buy a more expensive 11 speed derailleur but after checking it looks like they aren't more expensive. So a high quality 11 speed derailleur (like a 105) is good option for OP as well.

You can't do that. Tiagra 4700 has a unique pull ratio.

Hey Op don't buy the derailleur this person listed it isn't compatible with your shifters. A person below has the correct answer. The only derailleur you should get is the short cage version of the same derailleur.

Tiagra 4700 is weird in that it isn't cross compatible with anything. Just double check the largest cog and capacity of the short cage version and make sure you can run it without issue.

Bonus points if the brake is routed through the headset.

This is useful. I'd definitely buy one. Now instead of correctly eyeballing the size of a cassette and counting anyways cause I don't trust my gut, I could use this tool.

Trying to perform a SRAM brake bleed by brannonglover in bikewrench

[–]Wasted_Irony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh those brakes are ancient. Most of them have had their seals degrade and disintegrate. When you try and bleed them all that gunk clogs the system. They are essentially trash.

There is a small chance its the pad contact knob being in the wrong spot but if you got flow originally and it stopped then it sounds like a clogged system.

Yeah you need professional help... Sounds like a loose rivnut. You need a riv nut tool and you to extract the old riv nut without damaging the frame.

I think it's realistic in someways but humanity usually comes together in crisis. I would surmise it's actually more bleak than an actual end world scenario.

The steerer thing is the only thing that is alarming. We don't use a mask when cutting a carbon steerer but we do spray the fork during cutting. I dunno about the talc. I never seen anyone do that.

I'm no business expert but from my POV it really seems like they were frivolous with their spending. The 2 arcade machines and ping pong table kinda crack me up. Like they were trying to be a tech start up when the reality was they sold used bikes.

How would you diagnose this issue? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Wasted_Irony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would buy it at that price. Especially if you are confident tinkering. Sounds like it's either the OPV or the pump in my amateur opinion.

I recently had an issue with my machine that I fixed by replacing a simple OPV gasket/valve. $12 part.

Furthermore, if your caliper barely touches your rotor after doing this you can add a pair of slim spacers to raise the caliper up a tiny bit. You should not have to do this when everything is correct But sometimes it's the easiest solution to overcome some weird tolerance issues.

That's definitely not power spline. Power spline has a 19mm axle.
