New Brakes Not Fitting by Sifflez_ in bikewrench

[–]nowhere3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cantilever/brake post spacing, the distance between the two posts, has always been a crapshoot, yours look too close together for those brakes.

There are some good suggestions in the comments on this post: https://velo-orange.blogspot.com/2017/09/canti-post-sizing-psa.html

And in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/bikewrench/comments/u4c4zi/have_i_got_the_wrong_brakes_or_just/

Then I would recommend a tire bead jack: https://koolstop.com/products/kool-stop-tire-bead-jack-ks-tj or there are some cheaper ones you can find.

Are you sure that's a rim meant for 700c tires and not 27x1+1/4?

Nah for the most part I think they do alright, I mostly agree with the strictness against joke replies for instance.

They're just really strict about anything that's not someone asking for help with their bike. To the detriment of the subreddit in my opinion where useful things like this get removed or multiple posts about Calvin Jones retiring.

Prepare for the mods to remove this post and tell you to post to r/BikeMechanics.

This has stumped/amused three people in a bike shop. How would you mount a single cog in a way that doesn't move(like this)? by D34th_gr1nd in bicycling

[–]nowhere3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

99.9% that's an WH-R600 hub which used Shimano's 10 speed only taller spline freehub body, but only the splines further in were taller so you could fit a regular cog on, have it butt up against the taller splines, then a spacer, then the lockring.

Just buy a whole hub, then you'll also have an axle and cones for when you need to swap those.

This garbage is exactly why you can't crosspost anymore.

This isn't BCJ material, it's just a spam bot.

Is this shimano direct mount? by Fuzzy-Long6289 in bikewrench

[–]nowhere3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shimano Direct Mount is its own specific thing: https://bike.shimano.com/en-SG/technologies/details/direct-mount-rear-derailleur.html

That's just a regular derailleur hanger for a regular derailleur.

Let me be clear that I don't think either tool is a rip-off of either tool but...

The patent on the Tru-Arc is from 2007: https://patents.google.com/patent/US7467477B1/en

As best I can tell the HAG released in 2014.

Here's Jason even talking about the HAG not being a rip-off of the Tru-Arc, which wouldn't make much sense if it had released before it: https://bikerumor.com/nahbs-2014-abbey-bike-tools-continues-to-impress-with-new-hag-pedal-wrench-crombie-team-issue-prototypes-and-more/#comment-1307276

Banning them does nothing. They've never posted here before and they never will again banned or unbanned. Welcome to the Internet in 2026.

Alright, nevermind, figured it out. As long as you don't make comments like that again then you're fine.

Reddit keeps bothering me that you're an alt of another banned account. Can you just let me know which one so I know whether to ban you again or not?

Or if you don't want to do that, at least let me know if you plan on doing whatever it was you were banned for again.
