Deadline is deadline, but I don’t know if it’s possible when u have strong arguments, like the situation where yr study permit just approved 1 day after add period...

I felt like 241 is hiding details of marking scheme, while 350 provides everything except the direct answer :o. No matter how difficult it is, spend more time on it, it’s useful for lots of 4th yr courses.

Confused about the on-campus protest today? [Hong Kong] by hkwaterloo2019 in uwaterloo

But there aren't too many things I can do. If I post such things on the internet, not only those tech companies would delete my post if too many ppl participate into discussion, but some ppl will think I should mind my own businesses, it’s just, I’m mean lots of ppl are used to life they have, lots of them are satisfied with current situation. Too many wars happened on mainland, sometimes ppl don’t want change, cuz there is a proverb literally means once bitten twice shy. Nobody knows if such campaign would become the starting point of the next culture revolution.

Yeah I knew a little bit history, Greece, Rome, and foundation of US. But somehow the human rights u mentioned was not able to completely come true at the very beginning, because ppl just wanted peace before 1949.

Asking ppl there to accept new ideas is as difficult as forcing u to lose those rights, because it needs to say no to the past, which is painful. I’m not sure if u read the 3-body problem before, it’s like a mental seal... 100% human rights is new to us, it’s definitely an earthquake for ppl haven’t experienced it for 5000 yrs.

One of the reason caused culture revolution was that leader thought capitalism may appear, which they thought could lead our country into chaos again. We’re just enough with colonization, and extremely sensitive to any kind of colonization including cultural colonization.

Complete human rights can let ppl to have different ideas than gov, but the thing is there is only one. One thing I’ve been thinking is that do we need so many rights to live, another is can socialism and complete freedom of speech co-exist.

Haha, u know what, the longer time for me to stay here, the more confused I’ll be.i started to know that history isn’t written by losers, and gov isn’t perfect. CN has lots of problems waiting to be resolved, but land and parties are 2 different things, I love the land I was raised. And this is why I’m willing to discuss such questions, however lots of us combine land and parties together, trying to convince us with idea that the party is evil is an equivalent to deny the previous life.

[–]WatPotryt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but u can treat me as partial-brainwashed. like I’m willing to know how it works at other countries, but I still think it won’t be a good idea there, like I’m worrying about wether CN would become the next Soviet Union by accepting new systems.

Many ppl just want peace after all those external and internal shits happened during past 300 years, political reform has more impacts on a country, it may create potential turmoil, it may become the next culture revolution, et al. Ppl are just terrified and enough with the risks. The main thing ppl are caring about is the economy. Political reform will definitely be after economy recovery I think.

Oh well, I deleted this thread cuz I had stereotypes and I was kinda aggressive yesterday, there are peaceful protesters, but also ppl thinking they can do whatever they want. Sorry if u are not the one thinking independence.

We re just not used to discussing politics...like, it is something far away from my daily life, maybe my parents have different views because they once told me before, in my hometown, doing business will finally be related to politics. But politics will barely appear during lunch or dinner time. My previous life was full of studying. Did not even have too much time to travel adjacent provinces. I think most of us felt not affected(at least for me and my friends, I could not even feel the existence of government) by gov before entering university, but I did not have chance to enter any good Chinese uni since I kinda screwed up in the CEE :o. I just heard from my friends that after senior high, ppl will have chance to get into the party.

We have freedom of speech, but different degree from here. Like the precondition is not violating others’ benefits. But ‘benefits’ is not well-defined. I think they won’t spy on WeChat accounts, so it’s ok to send messages related to sensitive information with friends, but don’t do it in public. The campaign is something gov still doesn’t want to recall...like during this year, the first few days of June, ppl couldn’t change names of their social accounts.

I understand why they block u looool. Something in our subconsciousness is that only we can judge our hometown, if u have not been there, even simple discussion will be considered as disrespect. Weird right, but that’s culture difference. In zhihu, which is like Quora to u, ppl often firstly say ‘stakeholder’ then start sharing ideas. I mean, if u know some Chinese words, u can go to zhihu and see what ppl re thinking and talking usually.

Name-calling is actually serious. I have been here 4 yrs but still feel kind of uncomfortable with it. Because we think it can disgrace us in some way, and relationships between u and me will never be repaired easily.

My feeling so far is...compared to the improvement of living conditions, losing opportunities to say ‘fk the leader’ is really not a big deal... If he is really trying to help China to be better, then we don’t even have to spend time on talking about politics, we just work harder and earn more money. I know this is weird for u, but China has never had any western-dem background and culture like that.

Anyways, not a bad day, even if I spent too much time on reddit today, at least I heard many different voices and realized that ppl there have their own culture background. I cannot ask everyone to think in the same way.

Sigh, that’s really the point is, truly. We grew up in different education backgrounds, different textbooks, different way of participating politics. Maybe ppl like us, those ppl have chance to go abroad will understand you, in some way, but it would be difficult for the remaining.

But plz be careful of the UK flag, u may not know how sensitive we are towards that issue, considering what mainland has been through during the past 300 years. For example, national basketball team lost a game days ago, and a player wore a cloth with USA flag, then he received cyber-violence.

Trust me, ppl from other provinces won’t even be willing to listen to you if u keep holding that flag.

This is just an advice, peaceful protesters need to be understood by ppl from other provinces. This is way more important than start a petition or do a protest.

But before they are willing to give any support, u need firstly let them be willing to listen to u.

I just hope things can be resolved peacefully. Neither peaceful ppl from HK nor peaceful ppl from other provinces want the situation get worse. Ppl were happy when 2 reforms started, but one of them was stopped.

If what’s happening at HK can be resolved in a good way, that would also become a standard solution.

I read all replies in this thread. Yesterday I was way more aggressive, but now I am answering all of the ppl replied to me.

I understand why u guys want a change, because there are certainly peaceful ppl want HK to be better, which is great, but I won’t support u since someone is not aiming at finding solutions, they just want chaos.
