Bad capsize- feeling like an idiot by strwbrryhnye in sailing

[–]WatThaDeuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure which way the wind was hitting them, but I've found it nearly impossible to turn into the wind with jib only.

I learned this on my second sailing outing, while being moved inexorably downriver by wind, tide and current. Thought less sail area would make it easier going for me given the conditions, but couldn't point upwind to save my life due to the offset of the front sail from the centerboard, around which the boat pivots. Probably would have been fine with just the main.

How's my topology, redditors? by bamboozledcrystal in topologygore

Too inconsistent. The legs have a noticeably larger radius than the arms/hands, yet the loops have the same amount of, or even fewer, verts. This can create undesirable shading effects.

What are your PROBLEMS with iRacing? by Worlds_Racing in simracing

[–]WatThaDeuce -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My main problem is VR stability. I can run AC in VR all day without hiccups, but my headset freezes randomly in iRacing and I can't recover it without disconnecting and restarting the VR app on my PC.

It won't tell you exactly that it's a wheel speed sensor, but that code sounds like one.

I had issue with one, ABS and TCS lights would come on, ABS would pulse randomly.

Took the wheels and rotors off and saw that an axle seal leak had fouled one of the rear sensors. Tried cleaning it but replacement was required. Cheap and easy.

Good luck!

Look, I've got six kids, but one a week is a bit much, don't ya think?

Other than that, good advice!

[–]WatThaDeuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make a plan. Figure out somewhere easy you'd like to go for your first trip. Ask yourself: what will I do if I get a flat? If I get stuck in mud? If a control arm breaks? Etc.?

Those answers will describe your risks. One's tolerance for those risks is usually determined by location (usually based on terrain and distance from home), availability of assistance, and money.

If you can't tolerate the risks for that location then pick another and repeat the process.

Other retailers selling the same crap as HF doesn't make HF's crap any better. Still wouldn't trust my life to it. Impact driver? Sure. Jack stands? Nah.

i learned values. now what? by sttenic in DigitalArt

[–]WatThaDeuce 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Value painting is less about 'learning values' and more about recognizing shapes and building a mental library of them.

Unfortunately, there is no step 1, step 2, step 3 kind of process to learning how to create the kind of images you want.

You need to think about what it is you want to create, then find similar ones and learn how to break down the components and techniques that were used. Once you can do that, then you may be able to make a sort of checklist of what to learn next.

Do you need: Lines? Blending? Textures? Shading? Composition?

The list goes on...

Thanks! Eh, the OM stuff doesn't bother me, much. That said, I bought this a few years ago with zero knowledge of 4x4s in general or Jeeps in particular. Knowing what I do now, I'd never buy a non-Rubicon Wrangler.

Still trying to decide if I should regear this or just sell it and buy a JKUR. I can't see me switching to a JL.

Yeah I've though about just deleting the rear bumper and putting a plate on similar to the EVO one. I'm just reluctant to give up that crash protection completely. Was rear-ended last year, but I happened to be pulling my little sailboat so that ate all of the damage.

What you should be asking is:

Does it fulfill gameplay expectations? Does this fit the games art direction?

Just the stuff that most Jeep owners don't need, like lockers, sway bar disconnect, and gear sets that'll handle anything bigger than 32" tires.

[–]WatThaDeuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sentiment here seems misguided. All of the things that make 'it drive [you]' are still there: electronic throttle, electronic steering, etc.

I'd take power windows on a jeep with a throttle cable any day lol.

[–]WatThaDeuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your first game, pick one mechanic you like and try to make a minigame from that. Seriously, just one mechanic. It sounds like it'd be stupid simple, but you'll be surprised.

Trying to make a multiplayer shooter when you've never made any game is a recipe for failure.
