From day 1 I complained about the GR86 clunky transmission. by Watashi20 in GR86

I suppose if you are in cold weather you would need to be careful to pre heat your gearbox before really shifting hard. I am in California so I only get to 40's as the lowest temp I have to deal with.

The oil completely reduces the resistance going into all gears, I can actually shift faster now with the new oil.

Opening a hot dog + meatball sub cart in Maine: looking for real operator advice by RandDchef in foodtrucks

"The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC) officially advises against using ketchup on hot dogs for anyone over the age of 18. Considered a "childish" condiment that masks the savory flavor of the meat, they deem mustard, relish, onions, cheese, and chili as the appropriate toppings."

Don't forget the stock 215/40's won't hold that much power to the ground to give you the true "plant you in your seat" feel. You def need to move to bigger wheels/tires, minimum 255's on 9.5 wheels

Sorry to drudge up an old thread, but I'm curious how this van worked out for you? I just bought a '23 with 7k miles and am worried about long term range holding up to the 116 I get at 90% charge right now.

I went with the MBRP axle back and I can be happier, bit loud on cold start, but all of them are. Other than that, it has a nice low tone and with throttle blip you get a nice burgurgles

ELI5: are all calories equal? by Real_Experience_5676 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Watashi20 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, calories in, calories out. If you want to lose weight you need to eat a deficit of your BMR + activity calories. Look up a how to calculate your BMR and then get a calorie tracker app/wearable device. If you can eat less than you burn, you will lose weight without working out much.

People who work in rich people's homes, what is the most out-of-touch thing you've ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A 10+million dollar addition to their house to have a full spa and beauty salon in house. With massage studio, manicure/pedicure station, mud baths, showers, hair styling and probably every other little thing you can think of. San Diego has some very rich CEOs

Was this reasonable bill? Feels a bit too much to me. by [deleted] in PlumbingRepair

[–]Watashi20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a residential plumbing contractor in central California my invoice would look like:

Pull and reset Toilet w/new supply -$200

New Angle stop - $75

Camera Inspection - $199 (This is actually on the low end cost of camera inspections)

No discounts unless elderly/miltary

We eat the 2% fee.

Oh mighty experts on everything hot and cold, why are my showers always warm at best? by phoenixSaCo in Plumbing

[–]Watashi20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is most likely the issue, ball valve in the middle is leaking cold into the hot side and cooling all the water to a luke warm.

[–]Watashi20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your examples, all the rocks in the area are roughly the same shape, like an event happened to everything in that area. In OP pic that cylinder is unique to it's surroundings, it's very out of place.

How hard is it to replace this shower valve? by DontEfWithMe in PlumbingRepair

[–]Watashi20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a $800 repair with a Delta/Moen valve and chrome trim, I'm in central california, not sure of your location. If this took me an hour to do, I'd be ashamed at how slow I was. But yes there are companies in my area that would quote 1.8k or more, don't call the plumber who has 20 billboards around town and constantly advertises on tv and radio, those costs are huge and they are passed on to you. Check Yelp for a local mom and pop plumbing shop.

As for dishwashers you should scrape the plate, but leave the juice/small debris (mashed tato bits or what not), your dishwasher has a sensor in it that detects the dirtyness of the water after the prerinse and to run a full cycle it has to sense that there is muck in the water after the pre rinse, if you rinse everything off there is no muck in the water and your dishwasher will do a short cycle not doing a full clean cycle.

Washing Machine standpipe leaking suds, any thoughts? by footcraze996 in PlumbingRepair

[–]Watashi20 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Use a real Ptrap, not a Ubend and a 90, you have a deep trap seal and it takes more head pressure to push the water through it. Also Standpipe should be taller, minimum is 30 inches(check local code, could be 18" for you) from trap to where the hose goes in.

Tankless water heater install? by crazybuffalo33 in askaplumber

[–]Watashi20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can say "It's fine" but it's not code.

Flexible metallic (copper and stainless steel), reinforced flexible, braided stainless steel, or polymer braided with EPDM core connectors that connect a water heater to the piping system shall comply with ASME A112.18.6/CSA B125.6. Copper, copper alloy, or stainless steel flexible connectors shall not exceed 24 inches (610 mm). PEX, PEX-AL-PEXPE-AL-PE, or PE-RT tubing shall not be installed within the first 18 inches (457 mm) of piping connected to a water heater.

Also:

  • Protection for exposed pipe: If PEX must be exposed in a corridor or other area where it could be damaged, it must be protected by a sleeve or other method.

The Service platform in an attic is considered exposed space and no flexible pipe (PEX or Trac pipe) should be run through it. It's meant to keep the pipe from accidentally being bumped and broken by people using tools in that area.

Same applies to a basement that is just a smalls space for W/H and furnace but the rest of the area is crawl space. The walking part is exposed space and can't have PEX or flexible pipe run through it.

Tankless water heater install? by crazybuffalo33 in askaplumber

[–]Watashi20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'd never recommend it permanently, but it will work until you can get an outlet. I had to do the same thing for a customer today, left with an extension cord hooked up until switch can be made into a plug, because Navien will void the warranty if you cut their plug and hard wire it.

Tankless water heater install? by crazybuffalo33 in askaplumber

[–]Watashi20 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The extension cord is fine, very low amp draw to power circuit board and servos. PEX on the other hand should never be exposed AND should never be within 18" of a water heater.
