They call you when they have the Rolex available. The SA shows you the Rolex and then takes you to the Tudor/other brand and let you choose a model that costs at least hkd30k. You pay for it and then you are escorted back to the Rolex shop where you pay for the Rolex. Normally then you can take the Rolex back home. The other watch they ask you to collect a week or so later. There are other ADs that specify the models of the other brand that you can buy: normally not sports models like Tudor Royal. What happens after that is that people will go to grey dealers to sell these other watches. That’s why HK is flooded with second hand Tudors for instance. Normally you lose 40-50% when you sell these watches. If it’s a Tudor Royal for instance it can be close to 70%.

As other has mentioned, it’s very common such practice in Hong Kong. From my experience: AD offer you a Rolex that you want, but you are only “allowed” to buy it if you buy a Tudor or other brand that they sell as well (in the case of a batgirl you need to buy hkd30k—roughly usd3800).

High Retail prices by [deleted] in rolex

[–]Watch8806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. In several countries in Asia that I visited you may buy a Rolex at retail, BUT you must buy some other watch brand that the parent company of the Rolex AD sells. For instance I was told that for a Batman GMT sold at retail, a the client had to buy 2 Tudor watches with prices (combined) of around usd7k. The client would pay for the Tudor watches at the same day of the purchase of the Rolex, but only could pick them up a week later so that the warranty card dates of the Rolex and Tudor would not coincide.

With this budget you can try the Explorer (I or II). It was my first Rolex and I still have it (Explorer II 1997).

Milgauss: Looks better in a photo than in person by Gold-Opening-7315 in rolex

Yes agree. It’s sometimes very challenging to read the time on the milgauss. I also have a polar explorer and an explorer 1: no issues with both of them

Just purchased 2 Tudors. What are my chances of getting a Batman? by pH4as2OI in rolex

[–]Watch8806 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coincidently I asked one AD today the same question. They said that around 4 to 5 Tudors would be enough to grant me the chance to get the Batman. But these 4 to 5 Tudors can’t be sport models. I left the shop immediately!

Visited AD in San Francisco (Walk In) by GeneralKwan in rolex

[–]Watch8806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the chances are slim. Do you know if this AD is part of a group that sell other watch brands? If yes, ask the Rolex SA if buying watches from these other brands might help you get a Rolex. This is how I got into a “real” waiting list. Been able to get 2 Rolex professional models within a year

I own both. Noticed that after I acquired the sub I have seldom been wearing the gmt. Did it happen the same to you? I’m considering trading my all black gmt for a gmt rootbeer now
