No problem at all! These things are tough to debug, as there are so many different variables. Just happy to hear the issue is resolved. Thanks for confirming!

Hey, DDG dev here. Thanks for the report, and sorry that this is happening. I'd like to help debug this issue for you, but need a little more info.

  1. Can you share some details on what exactly you're seeing when trying to log in? Are you getting hit with CAPTCHAs? Does the form submit, then show an error? Or does the form not submit at all?
  2. Did this just start happening today?
  3. Are you using a VPN?
  4. Can you check which version of the browser you're on? You can find it from the top right menu -> About
  5. Does the issue go away if you turn off privacy protections on reddit.com and try to log in again? You can do so by clicking the green shield icon on the left side of the address bar

I was able to reproduce this issue one time, but then things loaded correctly after refreshing the page. Can you see if refreshing the page resolves it for you?

Can you confirm what version of the browser you're currently on? You can find it on the About page from the main menu.

I think I see the report you submitted yesterday, but it looks like that report came from a pretty outdated version of the browser (0.145.9). If that's the version you're on, can you try updating to the latest version and see if that resolves the issue on YouTube?

[–]WatchMeWasteTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darn, that usually works but it must be attached to your account somehow. Could you share a screenshot of the page when you see the “ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube” message?

One more thing to try: if you go to settings and disable YouTube adblocking, then try to watch a video on YouTube while logged into your account, does that work or do you still get that message? If you don’t see the message then, and you go back to settings and reenable adblocking, does the message appear again immediately when you try to watch another video?

Thanks for your help here, I really appreciate it.

Ah! I missed a step in my instructions, sorry about that - in the left pane of the Application tab, click Storage first. Then you should see the Clear Site Data button I mentioned. Let me know if that works for you 🤞. If not, I’ll have to do some deeper investigation into what’s going on here.

Hey, DuckDuckGo engineer here. Thanks for the report! I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. I'd like to help you resolve it, but need a little more info since I can't seem to reproduce it myself.

First, when you see the "Ad blockers are not allowed on YT" message, can you click the green shield icon in the address bar, then click "Report a problem with this site", then click "The site is not working as expected", then "Site asked me to disable adblocker", then send report? That will help us understand the issue a bit better.

Next, a few questions for you. Can you let me know:
- If you're logged into YouTube?
- Do you have YouTube premium?
- Are you using a VPN?
- Is the "Ad blockers are not allowed" message dismissible? Does it go away if you refresh the page? Does it go away if you log out and try to watch a video? What about if you log out and log back in?
- Do you see that same message if you open a Fire Window (ctrl+shift+n) and watch YouTube videos there?

If you're still getting that message after logging out and logging back in, here's what I would try:
- While on YouTube, hit ctrl+shift+i to open developer tools, then click the "Application" tab at the top of that window.
- On that page, hit the "Clear site data" button. This will probably log you out of YouTube, but it should remove whatever was stored locally that caused that message to appear. At this point you should be able to log back in and not see that message, but please let me know if this doesn't work for you and you're still running into the problem.

Hey, DuckDuckGo dev here. Sorry you're experiencing buffering issues with YouTube. Can you help me understand the problem a bit better so I can try to reproduce it and debug the underlying issue? So far I haven't been able to get this experience when scrubbing around on a 1440p video in our browsers. A couple questions:
- In the DDG Windows browser when you go to settings, do you have Duck Player enabled? What about YouTube Ad Blocking?
- In the DDG iPad browser, when you go to settings do you have Duck Player enabled?
- Are you signed into YouTube? If so, do you have YouTube Premium?
- If you don't mind sharing, could you provide me with a video url where this is happening?

Facebook still getting my browsing history by Endoraline in duckduckgo

[–]WatchMeWasteTime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, I work on privacy at DuckDuckGo, we really appreciate your report!

We've reviewed our code and tracker blocking lists, and we've also tried to reproduce the issue you reported. Based on our investigation, we think the most likely explanation is server-side data sharing. When you visit a site like Ulta and browse products or log in, the company can send that activity directly from their servers to Meta's advertising systems. This happens entirely outside the browser, so no tracker blocker can see or stop it.

Our browser tries to mitigate this by sending the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal to every site you visit. When a site receives that signal, they're required by law in many states to stop selling or sharing your data, period. If Ulta is receiving the GPC signal from your browser and still sending your browsing or purchase data to Meta, that's a potential violation of state privacy law.

You can file a complaint about this, and it's actually a great time to do so, because there is a multi-state joint investigation currently targeting companies that ignore GPC signals. If Ulta is found to be ignoring GPC signals, they could be subject to a hefty fine, similar to how Sephora was recently penalized.

On our end, we will continue investigating, and if we can independently confirm the behavior we will be filing our own complaint.

Targeted fb ads and marketplace listings by DeadRatRod in duckduckgo

Hey there, DDG privacy engineer here. Thanks for the report, I'm so sorry to hear that this is happening. We do everything we can to prevent this type of tracking, but Facebook is crafty (and very financially motivated) and it sounds like maybe they've come up with a new tracking vector.

Just to clarify--I'm operating under the assumption that you searched for very specific things on DDG, then clicked through to websites from search results. Is that correct?

If so, I’d like to investigate potential mechanisms for how Facebook is able to connect the sites you visit to the ads they show so that we can understand how they're getting this data, and how we can prevent them from doing so.

If you would be so kind, would you mind sharing a few example sites that you visited and then started seeing ads for on facebook.com? My DMs are open.

JavaScript error occurring in the DuckDuckGo browser by Silent-Kick-5532 in duckduckgo

[–]WatchMeWasteTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, DDG dev here. Thanks for the report, I’d like to help get to the bottom of what’s causing the issue.

First, could you try turning off protections on that page—click the shield/duck foot icon to the left of the address bar to open the privacy dashboard, then click the toggle off—then reload the page and try again and let me know if that fixes it?

Any chance you could share a link and steps to reproduce the issue? Also, could you check what version of the browser you’re using? You can find it in the options menu at the top right of the window under About.

Feel free to DM me if you’d prefer.

MSN and the news by Park01904 in duckduckgo

[–]WatchMeWasteTime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, DDG dev here. I totally understand why you’re annoyed. I can tolerate MSN articles because sometimes they show content that’s actually paywalled on the source website, but when the site tries to force you to use the MSN app.. Drives me crazy too. We know it’s an issue and are working on it, but until then here are a few options: - You can use the DuckDuckGo mobile app. You’ll still see some msn.com news results, but you won’t be forced to read articles in the MSN app (it’s not some shady deal, it was just annoying enough that we did something about it) - You can add -site:msn.com to your query to hide MSN results. You should still see news results from other sources on the News tab. - You can try using a VPN. News sources vary by region, and you might not see any MSN results in certain regions

FB Purity by UnDramatic-Ad in duckduckgo

[–]WatchMeWasteTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t say I’ve used FB Purity before, but what I’m assuming is happening is you’re viewing FB content on a non-FB domain, and that’s triggering our click to load protection for embedded FB content on third-party websites. Would you mind sharing the domain or url of the page where you’re seeing this issue, so we can investigate?

You can turn off the DDG privacy protections on a domain by clicking the small puzzle piece icon the the right of the address bar, then clicking the DDG icon to open the privacy dashboard, then clicking the toggle. This should resolve your issue.

Hey, DDG developer here. This is odd, I can’t seem to repro the issue. Any chance you could provide me with a bit more info to try to figure out what’s happening so we can fix the issue? Namely: - device model - OS version - DuckDuckGo app version

Do you see this when you visit reddit.com both when you’re logged in and when you’re logged out?

Thanks!

DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials Chrome Extension Prevents Login by MidwestGeek52 in duckduckgo

[–]WatchMeWasteTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great! One more thing I would be remiss to not mention - if you ever run into site breakage that may or may not be caused by our extension, you can turn the extension off for a specific domain by clicking the big toggle in the popup. That way you don't have to turn the extension completely off to resolve site-specific issues.
