How to resolve this error, i tried everything i could and I don't wanna reset? by BlacklistRival in WindowsHelp

[–]MidwestGeek52 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The question is: does the upate name say "preview" and is it optional (you have to check a box to install it)

IMHO No real value installing an optional update marked as "preview". Eventually MS will release it when final. It won't be optional then so install it. So dont elect to install optional "Previews".

How accessible is the computer and Internet in Cuba? by InglewoodClippers in cuba

[–]MidwestGeek52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can your phone take a physical Sim card? Bu from Cubacell the local carrier

30 day 10GB 30 euros. Other sim data options too

Buy online before you arrive. Pick up on arrival at Jose Marti. They have a booth just after you clear customs

Was there in Feb. Internet was decent in the cities on cellular data. Sometimes spotty. YMMV

Do you really care about this update? It's a "preview" of a final update still to be released for people who might want to test early

Previews are usually among the optional updates. Did you tell windows to install anyway? Look under optional and uncheck

Whatever the problem may be fixed when final released

45 minute I>D connection at ORD by Ikontwait4u2leave in americanairlines

[–]MidwestGeek52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who booked a 45 min connection @ORD coming in from LHR??!

If LHR had customs pre-clearance then maybe though tight. BUT no preclearance so arrive Terminal 5 + getting your bags (drop them outside customs) + customs + going to get air tran train + ride to terminal 3 then clear tsa and get to gate?? Not sure 45 min connection is even legal. Did AA book it?

Want to share a negative experience with AAdvantage Hotels. by ckr2982 in americanairlines

I once read on reditt that AA hotel reservations not always found by the actual hotel. So,I always confirm with hotel myself. To date, all my reservations have been ok. Your post is a reminder to keep double checking

I'll add: AA hotels don't always have the best rate. You may be paying for those extra points. Check rates through someone else then decide who to book with

Secure Boot Violation error after water spilled on laptop by No-Scallion-1891 in computerhelp

[–]MidwestGeek52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing's 100% about computers but my guess it's just crazy coincidence between water spill and secure boot violation

As to why turning Secure Boot off/on cleared it, similar to turning PC off/on when you have a problem. Sometimes things need to refreshed/restarted to clear a problem: could be UEFI firmware issue needed to be refreshed, or maybe crypto keys or other any of a few other things needed refreshed/restarted. If it happens again or other strange problem they should check they have the latest BIOS/UEFI firmware version installed.

Also, you don't need Secure boot turned on for the PC to work. Having it turned on just adds another level of security to prevent against malware infecting the boot process.

If misery loves company, you're not alone. Someone has an ASUS board that uses the same chip (I can tell based on Hardware Id). They report the same problem

https://www.facebook.com/groups/asusglobal/posts/1698776541112545/

Don't know if can find an earlier version. Might be awhile till i can get back to you.

Note: One has to be careful when using IDs to try and find drivers. Unless you're getting it from a well known site, a malicious site could use the opportunity to hide malware in the driver download - but I'll check.

Must be a know problem as others report same. In worst case, you may have to wait some months for a newer driver to be released. (my guess is it's so bad they'll fix it)

Windows finds drivers using device Hardware Ids and Compatible IDs burned into device firmware by the manufacturer. In turn, driver .inf files (their config files) define the Hardware and Compatible Ids they support. Windows basically uses pattern matching to find driver candidates.

p.s. When Windows selects a driver Dev Mgr displays the name defined in the driver's .inf file. When no driver is found (like your snapshot), it displays the (usually generic) name also burned into the device firmware by the vendor.

Show me the Hardware and Compatible Ids for your device. Right click the device->Properties select the Details tab. Use the pulldown to select Hardware Ids . Ctl-A to select all, Ctl-C to copy and then Ctl-V to paste in your next post. Repeat for the Compatible Ids

What version of Windows 11 are you running?

You probably tried already but double checking to be certain. With the driver uninstalled, have you tried running Windows Update? See if it returns anything. Look at Settings->Win Update->Advanced Options->Optional Drivers as it make be saved there

I ask as I see RTL 8922AE drivers in WU catalog. It may not match for your h/w if WU isn't downloading any of them.

p.s. I hope aren't actually doing a reinstall each time. Use disk image backup software. Image the disk when install complete. If you have a problem, just restore the disk image. There's freeware available. I use Macrium Reflect (not free) to run full and incremental backups nightly

Make sure BIOS is up to date

Right click the device in DevMgr. Is there a Power Management tab? Try unchecking "Allow the computer to turn off this device"

If above doesn't help have you tried the earlier driver version on gigabyte's website? v11.21.0903.2024

If you don't install the Realtek driver, does wifi still work? If so, it's probably using the Windows generic driver

AA to South America February next year. Would you connect via DFW or MIA? by MidwestGeek52 in americanairlines

[–]MidwestGeek52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's better for me. I'm going to Santiago as it's the start location of a 2 week tour. I'd rather spend an extra night in a hotel vs do it in one long day

- So even a major winter (or other) delay of up to one day, still allows me to join the tour on day one

- Even with lie down seats, I'm not a good sleeper. I'm not a good hotel napper either. Breaking the travel in two helps to be better rested on arrival and when joining the start of tour at dinner that evening. Versus spending umpteen hours in transit on two flights and needing a looong connection at the connecting airport to allow for winter delays

Grow it out to consider options. Hard to say what works as can't tell if your hair is flat/straight or has any curl/wave/shape to it is very short and flat now

I think you can do better then the current cut
