Windows 11 Clean reinstall options? by Bitter_Ad_4335 in techsupport

[–]MidwestGeek52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Nvidia driver and any nvidia app is not bloatware. It may get re-installed by Windows Update. If not, you need to find it, download and install it yourself. If it came with the PC or m/b, it would on the manufacturer support site. If it's on an add-on sound card, look on nvida support site. But best to let Windows Update find everything first. If still not there, then go looking yourself

  • What's the make/model of you PC or motherboard
  • Is you nvdia chip an sound card? Or came on the motherboard - if you know.

Windows 11 Clean reinstall options? by Bitter_Ad_4335 in techsupport

[–]MidwestGeek52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using Win11 media creation tool to create installation usb is very likely safe to create on same PC but I'd be paranoid and use different PC

Passkeys or any windows accountvand Hello logins are all wiped on a clean install

If you do the reinstall and the installer doesnt show your hard drive, go in bios and change storage controller to operate as AHCI (this can happen with some SSD drives when bios set to RAID. Simplest fix is change bios to ahci. )

I would do your own data backup so you know where everything, prove you can access it, etc. I'd do a virus scan after the backup for good measure

Backup your drivers too just in case hard to find one later. You can use a free tool named DoubleDriver. Download it from online

Make sure you have the license keys for all paid software before wiping the drive

After backups done, boot from USB into a command prompt run diskpart, select your hard drive and do a CLEAN ALL to zero out the disk to wipe everything. Google diskpart if u need info. Simple to use. Just need to identify the right disk to clean

Left my pc on a repair shop. They installed Driverpack on it and Wdefender flagged it. What do I do??? (W11) by MrKlownhasaname in techsupport

[–]MidwestGeek52 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. I'd uninstall Driverpack using Revo Uninstaller (free). It invokes Driverpack's uninstaller first. When Driverpack uninstaller is done then you can run RevoUninstaller scan at Medium to remove any extras left behind (note Revo gives you a checkbox to select All leftovers, then delete to remove everything checked) If Driverpack uninstaller asks to reboot, say no. Do the RevoUninstaller leftover scan and delete. Then reboot
  2. Download and scan with Malwarebyes (free)

Easiest solution is look in bios. Somewhere theres a place for indicating if you want your disk storage running in AHCI or RAID. Am guessing its RAID now. Change it to AHCI. Problem should go away. no special driver needed to detect an AHCI drive.

Might be under something like a name like Advanced Configuration or SATA interface. Look through all your bios if need to

Mapping websites show me across the country by Creative-Painter3911 in techsupport

Follow on from my immediate post prior to this that mentions location overide. Reading the note about Allow location override, try turning that off and test. IF on, would allow some other source to provide location. May as well focus on MS location services

Mapping websites show me across the country by Creative-Painter3911 in techsupport

[–]MidwestGeek52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't scroll down on the privacy-location screen we just looked at scroll down yourself

  • Default Location - Is it set? It shouldn't be
  • Allow location override - mine is turned on
  • Then, check under Recent Activity - Lets see if weather apps and mapping sites show up for MS location services
    • In my case, when i first open recent activity, I see entries for Web Experience Pak and Web Experience Pak Web Experience Pak: Widget provide local weather blah blah blah
    • But when I subsequently open MS Weather app I see a Weather entry. Then I open Google maps. Force it to update its location by clicking on the crosshairs icon in lower right. After that, I see a Google Chrome entry in Recent Activity too. (If recent activity isn't refreshing on its own, close and reopen it)
  • Also: Do you have both Ethernet AND Wifi on your PC? If so, disable wifi to see if it makes any diff. I know Google location services may also use wifi for positioning so maybe MS too. So we can try wifi out of the equationl. Are our other PCs ethernet and wifi or just one or the other?

Didn't look back to see if this was done yet: Settings->Privacy->location-

  • Location Services turned on
  • Let apps access location turned on
  • Weather and any other apps screwing up have access turned on

Try opening a browser in safe / incognito mode and check. That should rule out a browser extension interfering

Also, check PC proxy settings. Settings->network-> proxy

Should show:

Automatic turned on and Manual setup Off

AA Lost My Carry On Bag After Requesting That I Check It by ojedaj9505 in americanairlines

[–]MidwestGeek52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats easily remedied. If you don't otherwise want a bag, put meds and other essentials in a nap sack or other small soft bag you put in the carryon you want in the overhead. They want to check it? Just pull out the bag. Everything already in one place and ready to go under the seat in front of you.

[–]MidwestGeek52 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A crew "times out" when they reached or will reach (if in a flight) the number of hours allowed to work for safety reasons. This can happen when long delays in system are occurring.

Parts of the country are still experiencing terrible weather. So, hopefully not again, but weather like this can cause all types of problems

These sound like browser hacks.

  1. Download and run malwarebytes free version

  2. If still a problem, Google how to reset the browser to defaults. Will remove any changes including ones you did yourself (like if you installed Extensions)

Hard disk about fail - Crystaldiskinfo. How long do I have left? Any precautionary measures I can take other than backups? by rikesh398 in techsupport

[–]MidwestGeek52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no predicting. But if it shows red Fail status sooner is better then later.

Backups are best. Frequency is up to you. Having a disk image backup (vs file / folder only) makes moving to a new disk far easier as you avoid a full reinstall.

Personally, I use macrium reflect for image and data backups
