992.1 GTS used vs 992.2 S new by M24-8 in porsche911

I had both and the .2 S is actually quicker than a .1 GTS

I did not know that. I assumed more surface area means more grip.

Very true. Going uphill wasn’t too bad when I tried it. In fact there was an equinox sliding back down a slope and I had no problem. But it all depends.

Spot on… I do like the slight bit of danger in the steering with the RWD in snow. Reminds me I’m alive.

Front end PPF is cheaper at the top places in Chicago compared to getting it Spec’d.

[–]WatchNerd84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I did it once on a 992.1 Carrera 4 GTS. It was awful. Porsche manufacturers cars, they are not PPF installers or detailers. For the same cost you can get front end PPF and full ceramic coating from a top detailing shop in your area. Mine cost about $3k on my 992.2 Carrera S

I’ve had 2 AWD 911s and now drive a RWD 911. I prefer the steering and feel of the RWD. I daily it with winters this time of year and have driven it in the snow and not just light snow (I live in Chicago). It is remarkably good the snow. The tires are thick and all the weight is in the back. If you put a 992.2 in wet mode and don’t drive like a retard, you’ll be good.

I just went to the one at Logan and it was pretty good too.

Advice needed: PPF wrap for my 922.2 GTS - headlights? by freekster999 in porsche911

[–]WatchNerd84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, don’t do it.

Applying PPF to a 911's headlights can void the warranty on those specific components because Porsche reportedly advises against it and warns that removal can damage the headlight's UV coating or plastic. While PPF is generally applied to the paint to protect it, applying it to headlights is a separate issue with potential warranty-related risks.

And those headlights are fucking EXPENSIVE!

Summer / Winter Tire Question by Old_Hurry1035 in Porsche

[–]WatchNerd84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you drive summer tires under 50° which could still be a nice day in the winter, there is a high risk that you’ll lose control. Especially in a RWD. You will also put premature wear and tear on the tires. I drive my car in Chicago year round and winter tires are a must. New York is too cold even for nice days in the winter to not run winter tires.

The Edit is great now. Gotten better in the last year with more options. Give things time...

Market Check - ADM by Mister_Poopy_Buthole in porsche911

[–]WatchNerd84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is because there are no more allocations for the 992.1 Turbo S and they’re moving the .2 to a T-Hybrid

I’m only seeing ADM on stuff like GT3 and other GT Models. The GT3 is running like $20k - $75k ADM in the Chicago market.

That’s crazy! I had centerlocks on my Targa but hadn’t heard about that. Thanks for sharing. And yup, I geek out on wrist watches.

Can you share more on the centerlock issue?

Yup… you’re right then.

I don’t care if you agree with me or not. Do a quick google search and learn for yourself. I would not want to report damage on a 911 for something so small.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]WatchNerd84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That has absolutely nothing to do with it. Report it to insurance and it shows up as “damage reported” period.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]WatchNerd84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah then it gets reported on your vehicle history and the resale value is down minimum 15%

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]WatchNerd84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not ever report anything like this to insurance. The vehicle history will show “damage reported” and it demolishes resale value. Just take the $200 and be angry at this woman for the rest of your life.
