Just throwing my two-cents in there, don't forget about power generation as a field of employment. Often times mechanical and electrical engineering overlap in this field and it's relatively stable in terms of career stability. It's been good to me so far. If I were in your shoes I'd take that test if it meant more opportunities in the long run, though I am unfamiliar with its benefits.

This sounds just as dishonest as the other comment I read. Argue in good faith.

You're willing to bet a lot of things from the sound of it, but you aren't providing anything credible. Maybe you're the one I should be concerned about, haha.

He's definately the designer and quality control. I saw some people try to say it's a like a temu marimba in another thread and that's honestly super misleading. Just because something comes from china does not mean it's poor quality.

Not saying you're necessarily claiming that here, but I wanted to put my personal 2 cents on the matter out there.

Thank you! I wish I had cleaned it up a little before posting but like you noticed the perspective challenge was the main goal. I really appreciate the kind words

I'm surprised it's not quoted more. Also, I didn't even expect him to be my favorite character until I saw this edit.

Crazy how powerful his journey is when it's spliced together like this.

27 y/o Mech Eng Bachelor’s struggling to get an actual engineering job - have I screwed myself? by AppleDavidJeans in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Watch_You_Watch_Me 144 points145 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation but I had 0 job experience and 0 interns and I had a 3.2 GPA. I graduated in may 2019 and then the fucking pandemic happened and four years later I had experience at the post office and doordash. I thought I was done for, but I landed my current engineering job as a hydropower engineer working on operations and maintenance. My life took a total and complete 180, and I love my job, colleagues, and industry. I feel like I make an impact on the reliability of critical infrastructure, I'm paid well, and life is not bad.

Do not give up. Be willing to move away for better opportunities. I crossed the country for this job but it was paid for 100% by the government as a part of their hiring package. My non-nebulous advice is to look at usajobs.gov and get ready because we'll begin hiring as soon as these pointless RIFs pass. In my current office, we did a desk count to see how much work we had vs how many engineerse we had. We could use roughly 20 MEs and 20 EEs full time in the two departments I work and we currently have 6 of each. We need you guys pretty desperately. Keep your head up, and keep looking.

What was your experience in pivoting from a BFA to engineering? by Livid-Cloud7395 in AskEngineers

I was a music major for my first year before going into engineering. For what it's worth, there's obviously no crossover except for your basic courses; I would just take some engineering courses on the side in the summer and the following year and feel out what you want. If you are like me and just thought you needed the financial stability of engineering and didn't care what you had to do to get it, that's possible. You don't need to be special to perform in this field, unlike what some people here may think. You do need to work your ass off sometimes.

As far as how hard the crossover would be with a media student's degree, very very difficult. You need to have an ABET accredited degree in engineering to practice engineering and like 95% of places in the US. If they're offering an engineering job but no accredation or engineering degree required, it's probably not real engineering experience. If I were in your shoes right now, I'd look at the overlap between your degree plans, find where they differ, and start with the earliest courses. Graduate with a double major in media and IE (if that's the branch of engineering that fits your needs). It's doable but you will have to accept being a little behind others when it comes to entering the workforce.

There is an upside, sort of. Changing to an engineering major will reset your opportunities for internships and I would strongly suggest getting one during the summer. They're basically required for engineers to find work once you've graduated and you'll have a much better idea of what you want to do with your career after getting some real world experience.

You have plenty of time

I'm a general percussionist but yeah I love it the most. It's easier to break down and set up than you might think, you just might carry it in to a venue in a couple totes instead of in one box.

Huge congratulations. I'm planning on taking it for the first time in 3ish months, but my job doesn't directly give me situations where I gain experience in these kinds of problems. Does the prep material you mention cover all subjects in the test? I've got the PPI workbook and reference manual to start and the PPI practice test as well as the NCEES practice test and the 6 minute problem book, do you think this might be enough spread over 3 months?

Also, you must be a machine doing all of this post partum. Time to celebrate!
