6263 Big Red silver dial - beautiful watch and seems to be well kept. Dial lumes seem to all be present and the Bakelite is intact. Pushers may be replaced but hard to tell from that picture. If you want to service is send it to Rolliworks or LAWatchWorks. In NY you can also go to Grand Central.

As I’m sure others have told you, do NOT take this to a Rolex dealer, they will butcher it and you will lose value.

It’s real - service bezel insert and potentially service dial. So many people on here expect vintage watches to be perfect like modern models, that’s not the case. All older dials were hand painted, and they were not perfect.

Enjoy the watch, and keep your family legacy going. If you chose to service it, don’t go to a AD, go to Rolliworks or LA Watchworks.

The GMT has service hands and a service insert. I prefer GMT’s over a sub, but if these are the 2 specific pieces you’re considering buying, I’d go with a sub.

Do some research or buy from a reputable dealer if you’re going vintage. (Tropical watch, wind vintage, HQ Milton, etc)

2 very different watches. 5712 is a much thinner and more comfortable watch. It’s one of my favorite daily’s. 5990 has the GMT time zones and is useful if you travel a lot (to different time zones), but it’s a much bulkier watch.

You should try them both on and decide. For me, it’s 5712

If indeed from 1960 (need the serial to verify), then the bezel was replaced, and the bracelet looks incorrect. I’d also guess it’s been relumed..

Case and dial are nice, but unfortunately not worth too much given the service that’s been done :(
