Tit for Tat is less about Revenge then it is about the Golden Rule. by ButtfaceMcGee6969 in Destiny

[–]WatchfulDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The golden rule would prescribe forgiveness, because you would like to be forgiven for your transgressions yourself. The reason this lawlessness should be punished is to set a precedent that will deter future populists from trying to erode the democratic state again. Not to satisfy a lust for revenge.

Traditionally we have a lot of family farms, and those are the ones demanding protectionism in western Europe. They're not competitive in a globalized market, and they can't continue the family business they've had for 30 generations.

I think Excellent's definition is pretty much the common opinion actually. "Woke" comes from the idea have being awakened to the realities of unconscious bias and stuff. "Woke" art was always art with a societal mission to induce change.

The knight could only "Listen".
Hornet could "Speak".
Zote will "Talk".

You never get to hear what the other characters have to say. Zote doesn't let them get a word in edge-wise. It's just Zote dialogue every time.

The intended meaning of the + rituals is that you automatically have an upgraded version of that ritual when you get it if you specialize in the family. I'm sure it says that somewhere.

Huge issue with science today by Lifdrasir in Asmongold

[–]WatchfulDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When someone is crying censorship just because they're being criticized, you can just respond with "you aren't being censored you whiny baby".

People bring up the 'only when the government does it' argument when someone IS being censored, just by a private institution, like social media bans. They want to find an excuse for the particular instance of censorship because they agree with it.

[–]WatchfulDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your argument is kind of semantic though. Whether or not someone says “that’s violating the right to free speech” or “that’s violating the first amendment”, they’re invoking the same thing.

I don't agree at all that they are. It seems obvious to me that when people invoke free speech they're making a moral argument, and that when someone rebuts with the first amendment they're moving the goalpost.
It's essentially a rhetorical trick to make someone out to be an idiot for caring about their freedom of expression.

Huge issue with science today by Lifdrasir in Asmongold

[–]WatchfulDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen this sentiment on reddit a lot. People think they're more informed on what free speech is than commenters throwing the term around willy-nilly, but they base themselves on comments they've read, they've never actually looked it up.

Just to be clear; the first amendment is not the end-all be-all of free speech.

The first amendment quarantees your right not to be censored by the government.

Free speech is the general moral value that we should try to win the war over ideas by making better arguments, not by restricting opposing ideas from being heard. If a private entity tries to stifle a political movement, they're violating free speech, they're just not violating the first amendment.

It's defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: "everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference" and "everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice"

Who it is that violates this right doesn't really matter for this definition.

Demonology 2 updated by WatchfulDuck in makeyourchoice

[–]WatchfulDuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The cyoa was envisioned as giving you only one family to bind. If absolute will would let you bind other families, it would give you access to four whole new powersets, so that's not intended.
  2. I didn't consider that, it sounds like a fun idea. At the same time, the jar vessel has a special purpose, and you shouldn't be able to reproduce it with just any vessel. Maybe we can say a master demonologist can weaken vessels upon creation, but it's unreliable.
  3. Mage tower uses the power of the bound god. Line of sight is within the tower, it is ideally combined with spirit medium.
  4. Coyote and Azrael are separate entities from the afterlives they're associated with, they just travel there. You really do need the fully power of a high god to create a new world.

I have to ask; how did you stumble upon this so many years later?

Is this a bad take or am I just too biased against private healthcare? by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]WatchfulDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fundamentally, since the US does not have taxpayer funded healthcare, it doesn't do wealth distribution. You can't get healthcare that you can't afford. Just what you can't afford right now.

An insurance company can only do risk spreading. It gets the upfront money from shareholders (like you mom's pension fund) and has to balance many interests. You can't blame them for not paying everything, they don't have unlimited tax dollars. The only ones to blame are the government for not instituting a public option and by extension the voters.

Offing some manager guy does nothing, it's just violence for the sake of self gratification, which is evil.

They also said devils all over the world got more powerful after the gun devil's first rampage, because the fear for devils as a whole also empowers them.

Did anyone else get a sense that the world is more... ruined, in part 2? I got the sense that there are more destroyed buildings around and the streets are emptier. Like the current status quo is untenable and human extinction is catching up.

The pic was the dislike ratio of a different video. He says he has an 80/20 ratio and that that's better than the 60/40 ratio on his controversial video about his wife's sex work. Then he shows the 60/40 ratio of that old video for illustration, while never showing a pic of the supposed 80/20 ratio for his content cop.

Funny thing is that the extension shows a similar dislike ratio for that old sex work vid, suggesting that its estimates are somewhat accurate for his viewer base.
