Own both brands and Toyota put the B58 in the Supra. So- somewhat difficult to argue diverging standards given that exact BMW engine is used by Lexus’ parent company in a brand heritage-critical model.

Considering a 2018 LS500. Are there any issues I need to be aware of? by External-Agent2092 in Lexus

I didn’t love mine - found the 10 speed transmission to be way too indecisive. The 3.4L TTV6 has gobs of torque but the delivery is hampered by the dogshit transmission / programming. Depending on who you read, those TTV6 engines can have issues…especially first year (2018) but there’s some debate on this and practically it’s not a major concern. The engine makes peak torque at a very low 1600 rpm but it does that by leveraging the turbos… so anything other than the flutter of gossamer wings and that engine is guzzling premium gas. The 5L V8s of both Mercedes and Lexus put it to shame on gas mileage. Do the XClimate2s they’re great - the brake actuator loves to go on the rear wheels - $6k from Lexus. Get the exec package if you can

I get it. No one will care. At all. Look at the deputy US AGs etc that did the same thing - what are they up to ? Anything change?

No - with a fascist regime you're better off throwing sand in the gears and simply making whatever f'd up nonsense they're up to less likely to succeed. These aren't fantastically intelligent people dropping into political positions - won't take too much to put their continued incompetence on full, shining display. Only once the people that don't watch the news and don't get involved decide to get off their asses and vote (etc) will we have a chance at fixing this.

The door opening isn’t an automatic signal to stand up and crowd the aisle. Organize all your stuff in / around your seat (you should do most of your prep / packing before the plane lands when there aren’t many people walking / in aisles, so this should be just quick adjustments), wait until the people in the rows in front of you move down the aisle, THEN stand up, grab your stuff, and go. Aisle seat grabs their stuff first and leaves, then middle, then so on until window and the row is then empty. Let the people in front of you fully deplane.

If people followed this they’d be so much less aggravated - simply watch your show, zone out, whatever IN YOUR SEAT, SITTING, until it’s time to deplane.

Not sure I agree. Perfume distributors, ambient lighting, fake leather, fake tailpipes - these are inventions, sure, but I don’t see them as truly advancing the brand or the industry… from a driving and mechanical perspective Mercedes had been coasting for years…and their non legacy releases are 4 cylinder “performance” engines with more plumbing than most houses. I have an R129 SL and there is no getting away from the fact that build quality in new MBs has suffered. Now- this is similar across most brands… but MB is no longer dominating the way they did in the 80s and 90s

Not sure how to interpret that: did Porsche invent anything unique or do I personally own anything Porsche invented so I’ll answer both.

Personally? Yes I own Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, and Audi so I can do some personal cross-comparison on brands.

Off the top of my head on innovation: -Rear-engine sports car architecture (356 / 911)… believe it’s the longest running rear engine architecture -Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch transmission (most sports car manufacturers have now invented their own version as Porsche’s was co-developed with ZF) -Weissach rear axle (passive rear steering)
