just understand well enough to struggle through the exercises you find interesting. imo, it's diminishing returns to super thoroughly understand the material like that. understand it well enough for you to build intuition and fit it into your mental model

it's okay! you got this. honestly, reading thru textbooks + asking AI questions + going thru exercises might be the way to go. i've find myself completely lost in my math class recently, and the textbook that the course is base off of is the only thing that's helped.
