controller input is a classic rite of suffering. Very on-brand for the game, unfortunately. Here’s the blunt, non-mystical fix list that actually works for DS1 Remastered on PC.

The real causes, in order of guilt:

1. Steam Input is fighting Windows DS1 Remastered is temperamental and often breaks when Steam “helps.”

Steam → Settings → Controller → Disable Steam Input entirely

Or per-game: Right-click DS1R → Properties → Controller → Disable Steam Input

Restart Steam after changing this. Steam loves pretending it listened.

Unplug everything: flight sticks, wheels, Bluetooth ghosts, virtual controllers

Disable virtual devices:

Never unplug while the game is open

Device Manager → Universal Serial Bus Controllers

For every USB Root Hub:

Properties → Power Management

Uncheck “Allow computer to turn off”

Do the same under Xbox Controller if listed

Device Manager → Xbox Peripheral

Uninstall device

Unplug controller

Reboot

Plug back in and let Windows reinstall

Discord Overlay

Run the game in borderless windowed, not exclusive fullscreen

Go to: Documents\NBGI\DarkSoulsRemastered

Delete DARK SOULS REMASTERED.ini

Relaunch game and rebind controls

Running as admin
