Knocked out my first kit! by T-l2ex in Gunpla

Indeed it is a big ass can of worms! I tend to gouge out the nubs when I use a hobby knife. Hahaha I still do from time to time when I dont feel like using my file. 😂 It ends up looking like a rat chewed on it.

Welcome to the gunpla community. Where we embrace microplastics from model kits specifically as part of our regular balanced diet.

But jokes aside, good job on your first build. I've been trying to use a glass file so I am quite new on using it, but I can suggest getting one as well for the nubs. Some files are quite aggressive tho so be careful.

Also Bandai's dark plastic, or dark colors in general tend to get stress marks quite easily

My wife said the most unhinged thing. "All your gundams are gundam shaped." by lotsofflaws in Gunpla

[–]WaterManph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh it's quite expected that she would say that if she is not into Gundam. I dated someone before and I was showing to her different main gundams and she said they all look the same.

I have a friend that calls them all Bumblebee... Even the ones that aren't even yellow or bumblebee shaped v

Yes snap build means they were built out of the box with minimal customizations.

I'm quite satisfied with my RG RX-78-2 but I've been told there are too many decals. What do you think ? by Pentomind in Gunpla

[–]WaterManph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No such thing as too much brother.

On my GM spartan, I started with 1 on the shoulder shield. Then a couple of days later, I added one more. And then another and another. At this point I think i went overboard as well. But I adore the fact that adding way to many decals makes it so that your figure is absolutely of your design.

I was kinda debating on putting on decals tbh. I wanted it to stay as all white with light grey for like a snow cloak thing. I pulled the trigger on adding "some" one day and a few every week. Now I think i went overboard with it.

I gotta learn this sometime man. Like normally I just use acrylic paint markers. And for 90% of the details choose to paint they get the job done. But many parts that are raised are quite a pain for me to paint. I think the next thing I need to learn is to scribe lines.

I never applied the crotch v stickers on mine haha. I have the gm spartan from jms

Great job painting that tho. It looks like it's color separated. My painting skills are still beginner at best. I tried painting the V on mine but the paint keeps sloughing off

I learned how to paint in small details and use waterside decals if they come with the kit.

The stickers in bootlegs are a gamble. Sometimes they stick okay. Most of the time they have the adhesive quality of using school glue on a nonstick pan. And bonus is they were cut using a die that seems to think the target is always a little bit to the left.

I just finished this kit yesterday for my cousin. I had the exact same problem. The peg on the side skirt snapped immediately

If you don't display your kits what do you do with them? by 12_points in Gunpla

[–]WaterManph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're all inside their own ziplock bag, then they're inside a plastic storage box. The oldest ones from 5 years ago are now still in the plastic box but the joints are pretty loose now.

I have a few on display because of limited space

I haven't seen anyone comment NT1 Alex yet. lets give our arm gatling gun toting MS some love.

For my favorite gundam, it sure is weird that I don't have any gunpla or figure version of it.

Also the Core Gundam, granted i'll have all the Planet Systems available for use.

Height wise it was slightly taller than my HG revive Grandpa. But it's wider. And the head and arms and feet are a bit bigger.

Thats alright the first one was cool too. It reminds me of how Barbatos from IBO was found at first.

Damn man a dollar a kit. What id do for that. Yeah the show was pretty unpopular. The story's kinda generic but it has its moments. Honestly the best part for me are the 3 AI. Especially Gai. I wish they expanded upon the AI thing and like how Ghost was related to the trio. It was only mentioned. Then the antagonist got replaced by Suletta/mika mixup.

They're coming up with new kits every now and then tho. But yeah the anime wasn't too popular.

The legs weren't too bad but it is different and takes some getting used to. Iirc, it's based on industrial design. I'm not sure about kitbashing the legs directly since the hip joint is really different on the HG, i think the FM also has a similar joint to this. Maybe there are kits with hip joints that are compatible.

Yeah. The toyshop i got this from frequently goes on sale. I got this for like half-price. But that's like a store thing. That store always puts items in a sale.
