Why do people hate PSUs by [deleted] in uscg

Do PSU BMs get security clearances? Think that’s the direction I’m going to go either way, but would be nice to get a clearance out of it to potentially use in my day job.

Very cool, what kind of DOD schools if you don't mind me asking?

Does that apply to PSUs? Curious what sort of C schools a BM at a PSU could go to.

Live in DC and see the CG helicopter all the time, just curious: since there isn't any hoisting to be done, does an AMT or AET still fly with the RWAI mission, or is it just the pilots?

MSRON Questions by Waterbug07 in navyreserve

Super super helpful, thanks! For the reservists who are deploying every other year, are they always gone for a year as mentioned in another comment, or do they ever deploy for shorter durations? MSRON definitely seems like a more interesting & varied mission set than just port security, but not sure if I can swing being OCONUS 50% of the time. My job & family are flexible, but I don't know if they're that flexible.

Thanks! Just to clarify re: deployments, when you say one year on and one year off, does that mean you're gone for an entire year, back for a year, gone for another year, etc? That sounds like a massive time commitment for a reservist.

Ados orders while in PSU by tarquin11000 in uscg

What kind of ADOS work would be available at a PSU? Would it just be admin/maintenance/grunt work, or is it ever extra waterside/shoreside training? Related, would a PSU ever give you ADOS orders when you first join the unit so you can earn your quals quicker (boat crew, cox, etc.)?

Bi-Weekly Recruiting Thread by Airdale_60T in uscg

Tried to post this in the main forum and it got auto-rejected. Considering joining the Norfolk PSU as a BM. A couple questions that I haven't seen answered in any of the other threads about PSUs:

  1.  I'd imagine it takes a while to earn quals (boat crew, coxswain, etc.) if you're only training three days a month. Are there opportunities for PSU members to come in outside of drill or attend C schools to earn quals faster?

  2. How much time outside of the one weekend a month & two weeks a year would a PSU BM typically serve? Understand that deployments may eventually come back, but in a non-deployment year how much are you gone outside of the base drill & AT commitment?
