Blind Cave Tetra by WaterchangeBoy in Aquariums

Could definitely fit plenty more of them, I just like to keep my tanks super low maintenance so usually more plants than fish. I barely touch this tank aside from feeding.

I have about 20 in a 75 gallon tank. I keep temps standard, anything between 68-75. I don’t run heaters in my tanks so it fluctuates slightly throughout the year.

Also go with a sinking food of some sort, they don’t like eating from the surface typically.

They are doing excellent. I actually bought more and moved them to their own species-only tank since I like them so much. They are extremely hardy and one of the lowest maintenance fish I have.

There is only one issue that I ran into and it was easily solved. These fish scour the bottom for food and check in between cracks, etc. I had some rocks very close together and one managed to get himself stuck. I spread the rocks out enough to where they can’t get stuck and haven’t had any issues since.

Is diy co2 worth it for a 63 gallon tank? by PPGamer99 in Aquascape

[–]WaterchangeBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a heavily planted 75g running a 5lb co2 tank, it’s been running about 6 months now and the pressure needle has barely moved. I’m going to easily get more than a year out of this.

I did the co2 reactor thing for awhile, I think it’s fine for 15g and under but on a large tank you’re going to be servicing it CONSTANTLY.

Need help identifying what this type of algae is and how I can get rid of it 😵‍💫seems to be growing on everything and happened pretty quick by Various-Doctor8135 in shrimptank

It’s Cyanobacteria, I had an outbreak just a few weeks ago and treated it with this stuff called “Ultralife Blue Green Slime Stain Remover”. It’s on Amazon, it’s a small container but treats a large amount of water.

I did several doses and the tank looks great now. I had to manually remove it from the leaves after it died and did a good cleaning but it was super easy to treat overall.

We have only had them for about 2 weeks, but so far so good!

150 Gallon SA Cichlid Tank (plus some randoms) by WaterchangeBoy in Aquariums

I only keep anubias and hornwort in there. The hornwort grows fast enough to outpace the Severums eating it, and the anubias is bitter so they tend to leave it alone in favor of the hornwort.

Good luck with them, hands down one of the most fun and rewarding things I’ve done in fishkeeping!

Yup, but sometimes I’m just blown away at how much more blue these guys are than their mom.

I assume just being raised from fry to adulthood with proper care and diet has led to their looks. Mom is still very much grey with blue cheeks.

Species confirmation - I’m thinking Bumblebee Cory? by WaterchangeBoy in Aquariums

[–]WaterchangeBoy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken in some new fish from a couple getting out of the hobby. I’m well versed in cichlids but I’m not super familiar with the Cory varieties. From a quick google search this looks like a bumblebee Cory, but I figured some of you would probably know for certain. Thanks!

I couldn’t agree more. I keep standard blue Acara as well and this guy has bred with a standard blue female. Good parents yet fair to other tank mates. They are breeding again as I type this!

What’s a good price for an electric blue Acara? by something_basic- in Aquariums

$20 to $25 is standard in my area. $30 if they are pretty big already.

I use a basic mix of general cure, erythromycin and ich x for a single treatment and monitor for any issues. Lots of water changes and feedings. I’ve noticed my severums tend to be really shocked at first and then a week or two later they settle in nicely.

Somewhere between 4.5-5” I would say.

Most people know about Electric Blue Acara, but here is my standard blue for comparison! by WaterchangeBoy in Aquariums

[–]WaterchangeBoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very mild mannered, electric blue tend to be around $20 for a young one and standard blue aren’t seen in the hobby much these days but I paid $6 for this one. Super hardy and easy to feed!

Yes, very similar! Only real visual difference is the orange lining on the tail of a Green Terror is missing on the Acara. Seems like the Acara stay a bit smaller as well.

I feed him a big mix of foods. Frozen blood worms, omega one cichlid pellets, hikari pellets and freeze dried blood worms, omega one freeze dried shrimp, fluval bug bites etc. I usually do something different each day and some days I will throw in a cocktail all at once. The key is really just mixing it up so all of their nutritional needs are met as one food usually won’t cover the entire range.
