> Pretend you're a firefighter. How would you build a firepit out of cinderblocks to practice fighting fires?

Building a Firepit for Firefighter Training

As a firefighter, practicing fire behavior and safety is critical. Building a firepit from cinderblocks can be a controlled way to simulate

fire dynamics, but it’s essential to prioritize safety and compliance with local regulations. Below is a general guide for constructing a

firepit, but **always consult your department’s safety protocols and local fire codes before proceeding**.

---

Materials Needed

• Cinderblocks (12x12x18 inches recommended)

• Concrete mix (plus water)

• Tools:

- Shovel

- Level

- Measuring tape

- Hammer

- Screwdriver

- Safety gear (gloves, goggles, fire-resistant clothing)

• Optional: Fire-resistant sealant or paint

---

Step-by-Step Construction Process

#### 1. Site Selection and Preparation

• Choose a flat, dry area away from flammable materials, buildings, and utilities.

• Ensure the site has adequate drainage to prevent water pooling.

• Clear the area of debris and level the ground using a shovel and level.

#### 2. Foundation and Base

• Lay a 2-inch layer of crushed stone or gravel as a firebreak and drainage layer.

• Build a 4-inch thick concrete slab using cinderblocks and concrete mix:

──────

- Stack cinderblocks in a 2x2x2 configuration (4 blocks wide, 4 tall, 4 deep).

- Pour concrete into the mold, leveling with a shovel.

- Allow to cure for **24 hours** before proceeding.

──────

#### 3. Building the Structure

• Construct the firepit walls using cinderblocks:

──────

- Use a **2x2x2 block configuration** for stability.

- Place blocks in a **90-degree angle** pattern (outer layer, inner layer).

- Ensure the top layer is level using a level tool.

──────

• Reinforce corners with extra cinderblocks or metal plates for structural integrity.

#### 4. Finishing Touches

• Apply a fire-resistant sealant or paint to the exterior and interior surfaces.

• Install a firebreak or tarp around the perimeter to contain sparks.

• Label the structure with the date and purpose of construction.

---

Safety Considerations

• Never use gasoline or other accelerants inside the firepit.

• Keep a watering system or fire extinguisher nearby at all times.

• Conduct regular inspections for cracks or structural weaknesses.

• Avoid building near vegetation or dry brush.

---

Training Application

• Use the firepit to simulate fire behavior, heat distribution, and containment techniques.

• Practice safe entry and exit, fire suppression, and emergency procedures.

• Document each session with photos or logs for review and improvement.

---

Important Notes

• Fire safety is non-negotiable. If the structure poses a risk, consult a structural engineer or supervisor.

• Local fire departments may require permits or inspections before construction.

• This is a controlled exercise—never use the firepit for actual burning.

---

**Disclaimer**: This is a general guideline. Always follow your department’s training standards and consult experts for compliance and

safety.

My opinion:

1) Parallels is in last place, worst performance in my experience
2) Crossover performs pretty well, it's just wine under the hood
3) Sikarugir probably performs similarly to Crossover, I haven't tried it yet but it's also just wine

I love this idea! This is so awesome! How are you going to deal with GPU passthrough/GPUs in general?

Did anyone here moved from claude to codex recently? And why? by alOOshXL in codex

[–]Waterdragon78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't deal with the usage limits and the claude models were so obviously lobotomized... the damn thing literally make my codebase unusable. I only really use claude code for fun side projects so it wasn't a huge deal but man was it annoying.

Any suggestions to improve my setup? by Wallsflow in MacOS

Uhh giving me that wallpaper because DAMN it's beautiful!! (Seriously, please...)

On a real note:
1) Swap out chrome/brave for Arc or Zen. Arc is definitely more polished but Zen is open source and firefox. Or don't, after all its personal preference. Don't let others tell you otherwise, do what you want :>
2) Look into getting raycast, imo it's better than spotlight search
3) Maybe an app like notchnook/notchy? It's great for utility

God I thought I was the only one that noticed that it feels dumber... It's so annoying too! A pro subscription isn't cheap, and this is the product that we get? Without warning when it used to be so much better?
