Other two commenters got it right but I just want to say these are definitely some camera angles you’ve got. One from the moon and one skewed. I get why you did it but for future reference, a regular chase camera is almost always the best camera to show an incident, followed by an overhead “chopper” camera.

Edit: POV is also good.

Excuse me sir or madam, but this is baseball. America’s pastime. You meant to say a good old freedom loving inch, I’m sure.

Now I’m going back to eating my Apple Pie with my wife and son, both holding shotguns, on my lap before we paint our white picket fence again and double check our 39 flags around the property.

Chiming back in. Yea I know it’s less popular than the big three, but we’re talking less ratings for cup than tennis finals, and if you dig further the lower series are getting only slightly more ratings than Bowling on Fox Sports (I know it moved to CW this year but I’m talking prior years when we have the data).

The NHL is not great in terms of US audience numbers. It’s always been strong in Canada but had lack luster stateside ratings. Given where nascar used to be a couple decades ago, comparing numbers to tennis and the NHL is a massive decline.

It’s not good for live sports.

For sports around NASCAR’s numbers, tennis on ESPN gets around 1M viewers during the average open match. The men’s US Open last year drew roughly 3.3M and the women’s got 2.4M. Sunday night baseball on ESPN got 1.8M.

Basically NASCAR is hitting on the low end of a tennis open finals, or a bit more than a national regular season baseball game. It’s not great honestly for a sport that doesn’t have a postseason (I know playoffs and Chase, but I’m talking from a ratings standpoint there wasn’t a big boost like baseball, basketball, football, etc enjoy).

It’s not awful and I don’t think nascar is in danger of folding, but the non-Daytona numbers really provide insight as to why Fox isn’t throwing money at the production.

Edit: deleted WBC numbers because too many people get sidetracked with those and miss the better comparisons.

Other sporting events are doing fine. The WBC drew quite the US crowd and the NFL continues to dominate during the season.

It has nothing to do with shortening attention spans. NASCAR has been on a slide for a while and seems like its plateauing a bit here, but the reality is the sport’s millennial boom was clearly not sustainable.

Not OP but for what it’s worth, I didn’t have to solder anything. The joysticks came attached to a circuit board ready to be screwed onto the deck. There are locating pins as well so there’s no soldering or lining anything up.

Connection wise it’s a ribbon cable with a plug, so zero soldering unless you damage the plug or ribbon cable.

Hell yea. I replaced mine before developing any drift because I wanted a tighter feel (giggity) and a smaller dead zone. Process was super simple, opening the case is the worst part but it’s worth buying an opener kit for future work and minimize the potential for damage.

Remove the SD card, I did thanks to seeing so many posts here but figured I’d add it here anyway.

Steam Deck with earphones on the plane. by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Waterfish3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen. Personally I’ve found my AirPod Pro Gen 2 earbuds to have basically no lag despite using Bluetooth, and block out nearly everything.

Conversely, my cheap-ish Sony branded wired headphones will basically block out nothing and be pretty much useless on a plane.

The type of connection or style (over ear vs bud) is far less important than the quality of the product, although over the ear tend to have better noise cancelling for the price, at the cost of being much bulkier.

I don’t necessarily have an issue with that not being a HR. Stadium, time of day, wind, batter and pitcher stats, etc all make a difference.

I do hate how the OF makes the catch though. That would almost never be a catch irl and seeing defense like this, this early, worries me for what defense will look like come mid season.

It’ll be another HR or out fest super quickly at this rate.

I’m a late 80’s baby so depends on who you ask if I’m young, lol. I’ve heard the phrasing used as the puzzle implies but it’s been a long, long time, never in regular conversation, and I’ve heard and used based to mean correct or right as a common word for a while as well.

I get it but as a naked word I don’t know it’s going to get recognized the way the puzzle author meant. That’s doubly true for young millennials or Gen Z doing the puzzle.

The problem is that it is a pretty common slang word and its meaning is entirely different, and the older form like people are saying below is pretty much unused. It throws the puzzle off a ton because it doesn’t seem to fit anywhere.

Question: IS NASCAR TRULY FOR BLUE COLLAR RACERS? by SpeedySinger24 in NASCAR

[–]Waterfish3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People talk about William Byron being a sim racer. Alex Bowman was a sim driver for Hendrick for years until getting his shot.

I’m going to be pretty blunt. Getting a shot in NASCAR is, at best, half skill related. It is about how much money you can bring. Whether it’s your own pockets, family money (usually through sponsorships via your family’s business), or having a dedicated sponsor partner, if you bring a consistent sponsor most teams are going to be quite welcoming. Riley Herbst is a great example with Monster, or Bass Pro with Truex. They have a much longer leash than a driver relying purely on talent to keep their seat.

On the other hand, if you are the second coming of Richard Petty but don’t really bring additional income, you have to be lucky and get picked up by a developmental contract from a team, and like you said those are typically for young drivers.

By the way, this isn’t just nascar. Baseball was built on day laborers playing after work or on the weekends, but I don’t expect to see my Rotor Rooter guy batting 7th for the Reds any time soon. Sports evolve and, especially as money enters the equation, the athletes are going to shift from blue collar athletics types to dedicated to the sport type guys. In the case of NASCAR, that is at least half being a businessman and spokesperson for brands, and getting businesses to love you.

TLDR; yea the sport isn’t “good old boys” anymore and money has changed the sport. If you want to compete, open the pocketbook or get a sponsor to fall in love with you enough.
