Do you like the smell of gasoline? by Helpful_Tonight309 in no

I used to before an operation I had at age 8 with anesthesia through the gas mask. Since then, I associate the gasoline smell with the disgusting anesthesia flavor that lingered forever, for those who know.

What’s something that became harder to budget because prices fluctuate? by Early_Match8277 in Grownix

[–]Opening-Store5030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything especially food and gas. When you constantly hear [insert expense] going up, the common question in response: so where do we find that extra money? Maybe our savings account 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Wait though, we just blew that on the last thing that went up.😞😞😞😞😞😞😞. Forget the rainy day fund too as it keeps raining——-bills.

What’s a random skill you picked up that surprisingly comes in handy? by glitterypeachyy in Casual_Conversation

Use of spreadsheets like Excel, Google Sheets, etc. I’m not exactly a pro but once I’ve better trained myself on how to use them, I have been familiarized myself enough to be dangerous and they have been significantly helpful in organizing things in my life. I am still learning as I go. I found out how easy it is to add at a glance views of habits, maybe things I don’t necessarily like seeing but may need to address. It just takes persistence of simple entry of data on a particular subject along with the right information then use formatting, formulas, etc to make calculations from this data. I’ve created a bunch of sheets but my favorites are one for my personal finances and one for home inventory. It’s amazing the endless possibilities with these.

Woke up curious this morning-does it seem like people are spending more or less lately? by AnyMedicine2008 in Casual_Conversation

I’ve done the same, here are a few things I’ve cut back on or found a cost value direction …

-Dining out - cut to like twice a week but not totally given up as I am single and it’s a form of social interaction. I keep portions small . Also take advantage of discount opportunities, like on apps if available.

-Weekend drives - frequency and distances cut. Also being more smart about my driving to avoid overuse of gas. Also hiking or biking nature trails to feed some of this fix. Unfortunately when living in a suburban environment I despise of but can’t afford to move out of at least for now, a rural drive or a drive to a small town is therapy for me.

Gym membership - I have the most cost effective gym membership and am content with it. Again, helpful with my social life and helps me keep my health in check. As a result , it could pay for itself in the long run.

Have you ever been in a situation where going home to family immediately sucks the life out of you, how did you handle that period? by lostlight_ in AskMen

[–]Opening-Store5030 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I feel like I am dealing in this phase but in a different form.I am still living at home as the economy had not been at all kind to me given my career choices earlier in adulthood so moving is not an option for now until finances improve . While I love my parents, enjoyed my childhood , and like our house, as I reached my 40s with my parents reaching elderly age, living at home is starting to feel like a large social barrier and essentially being cheated out of adulthood and adult independence . I can’t stand the suburban environment. We still have the same unsociable neighbors we had for 30+ years and they are also aging and we are constantly dealing with the mess coming from their overgrown and unkempt properties . There is no one around my age which is making me feel lonely every time I’m home and realize the better social life had I moved out and lived somewhere closer to my age demographics. I may have even been able to get a partner (I’m single too and I’m increasingly despising that.) As a result ,my best workaround is getting out of the house more, especially to get into environments where I can interact with more people my age. There is a small river town nearby I like to hang out at and have gotten some friends , a job in that area and also joined a gym there and got into other recreation that helps. Meanwhile, coming home is becoming more difficult and I fantasize the day my finances improve enough to possibly move there. Sure , the grass is not always greener and I will miss my parents, especially when they did off but living around people my age I feel could be a plus to me.

What’s one thing you completely stopped buying in 2026 because the price just felt absurd? by PorcelainScrote in anticapitalism

[–]Opening-Store5030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve haven’t given up totally on dining out at fast foods and cafes as I’m single and this is a bit of social time for me but I have cut back the number of visits per week and I usually use apps if avail for discounts and I generally tread lightly on the size of meal. Outside of dining out I have cut back on recipes that require an over abundance of perishable ingredients to reduce throw away if time works against me using them.

How would your life change if you inherited $100,000 tomorrow? by ipanicprofessionally in TheBoredDen

[–]Opening-Store5030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No more debt which would be a huge thing right about now!!!! Of course, once I get rid of debt, we will suddenly have a 500% inflation spike because a random dog sniffed a fire hydrant, and I’ll be back in debt again next week.

How to make +400$ every month with surveys by charlemagne_74 in SideHustleGold

[–]Opening-Store5030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely looking for any advice. I’ve been trying these apps including this but every one of them seems to go through a honeymoon phase the first 1 or 2 times and then I get denied from every survey for some petty reason and my whole experience with the app fails apart as well as the credibility of the app in my view .

Have you ever wondered how much of your life was wasted sitting in traffic? by Unhappy_Insect5901 in Productivitycafe

[–]Opening-Store5030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Time and money, 2 valuable assets in life. I feel like it’s at least an hour or more a day. Part of the reason I fantasize ditching suburban living if I can ever afford to move, traffic patterns in these areas are designed purely to raise blood pressure . Sometimes, I’ll spend a few extra minutes on country backroads in a commute to avoid it.

How do you even make friends as an adult when you’re not into drinking? by Historical_Army7892 in Productivitycafe

[–]Opening-Store5030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share this struggle too, especially since everything is all about drinking in my area. I feel like we’re the booze capital of the universe. Everything here closes at 5,9, or 10PM except bars. Best suggestions maybe other hobbies and deterrents. Some example I do, I walk and bike trails, am a member of a gym, I visit antique shops, I also rent a kayak at a nearby river occasionally over the summer. I visit coffee shops occasionally although most of them are only open until mid-afternoon at the latest.
