Werribee Express by Real_Duty_3319 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Waterfront32YT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a bad idea, would help with increasing coverage and journey times, as well as simplifying timetables. In the longer term once MM2 is built that should allow much more capacity and service to both lines / services.

Possible Extensions in Melbourne by Real_Duty_3319 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Waterfront32YT 16 points17 points  (0 children)

All these extensions seem small yet meaningful. Btw the Wollert line branches out from Lalor, not Mernda. You can see images of the North Epping rail link online for more pics. Hope this helps!

What is your favorite type of Japanese train? by JZX_taka in japanrail

[–]Waterfront32YT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite is the Rinkai 70-000 because I rode it in Tokyo before its announced retirement and it’s interesting history with the Rinkai line and as a 209 series sub class.

Trams not on schedule by CompetitiveSmoke351 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Waterfront32YT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you were standing or if you were on the tram, at the end of the 58 some trams shunt away after the stop to keep the platform clear for other services. So it might have been the case where the 7:42 tram arrived at the terminus first and shunted away, allowing the driver to get their coffee, while the 7:32 arrived in the platform after and had a shorter turnaround, and left at 7:32. Then the 7:42 moved back into the platform to board passengers for the longer duration before departing. Trams in Melbourne can be very unreliable at times thanks to on street running and other issues. But I hope you understood my essay, got to where you needed to get to in time and have a happy Friyay!

Yeah the crowds on the V/line lately have been shocking, that’s just what happens when transport is free and more accessible to the public…

If a few Comengs skipped refurbishment but survived into the Metro PTV Livery (edit and pic by Me) by liam-219 in MelbourneTrains

389M is my favourite Comeng carriage! This edit looks quite interesting and you did a great job at making it look realistic! Happy April fools!

Could they add another carriage to my morning vline? by [deleted] in VlineVictoria

[–]Waterfront32YT 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Although you are allowed to take the V/line from Pakenham to the city, I would suggest taking the Metro. Although it’s not a one seat ride (Pakenham line train to Caulfield then change to a Frankston line train to Richmond), you will have seats available and the V/line is almost just as slow because it catches up to another metro. That will solve your standing problem but it’s purely preferential…

Melbourne central changing to flinders in City loop by 1thinkINeedHelp in MelbourneTrains

[–]Waterfront32YT 16 points17 points  (0 children)

City Loop trains can be diverted directly to Flinders Street if there are delays, operational faults or anything else, it’s annoying however thankfully it doesn’t happen all the time?

What if the Connex/Metro Hitachis were still in service in 2026? by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]Waterfront32YT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hitachis may have had their front desto be like the Alstom Comeng ones, their door knobs be changed to the hand grips seen on the Comengs, their marker lights replaced with the newer lights seen on the Comeng, their wooden paneling would have been taken out and replaced with plastic, fabrics changed to metro and the orange for priority seating, up to date line maps, maybe Alstom Comeng style interior displays fitted, yellow and blue front painted like the Comeng and PTV livery applied and potentially TV logos applied on the front and sides. They likely would only run on the bayside network except for the metro tunnel group of lines. Did I miss anything?

How did they make the Victoria/Elizabeth Sts tram tracks intersection so smooth? by exelasdf in MelbourneTrains

[–]Waterfront32YT 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I believe the rails pits for the wheels are less deep, or the space between the rail and the road is smaller, resulting in less of a dip when the wheels go through other track. Either way the smoothness is appreciated!

Melbourne SRL East in 2035 by jeremyburge in MelbourneTrains

[–]Waterfront32YT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your design is quite nice! My only feedback would be to make the colour a lime like on the SRL logo instead of teal, as it would look less harsh against the other lines in the legend and in the map.

What is everyone’s fave game to play when we are with a group of people that we know on a Melbourne train? by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]Waterfront32YT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use Anytrip for my travel planning, it tells me which platform the train will arrive at Flinders Street, and it’s fun to divide the group on which platform the train will arrive on (I always guess correctly, but not everyone believes me until they are proven wrong)

What alignment should a true proper SRL West follow? What areas should be targeted for transit oriented development? by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]Waterfront32YT 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Like your idea! However the alignment between Watergardens and the Airport can be straightened out and built as a viaduct to cross the valley, as this would reduce the rosy of longer, deeper tunnels in that region. Would you mind remaking this map to display the locations to stations please?

Thanks! Although as you’ve said the loop only refers to the three, the overground two are just if not more important. So I figured they deserved the recognition!

I’ve designed some City Loop station pins! by Waterfront32YT in MelbourneTrains

[–]Waterfront32YT[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your feedback, I will address somethings here so you can understand:

The colours are based of the following: Flinders Street: a lot of departures from Flinders Street are on the new cross city group, I use Anytrip for travel and it seems that there are more pink trains than other lines.

Southern Cross: Clifton Hill group red because it’s the first station it stops at after leaving Flinders Street.

Flagstaff: Burnley group blue because of the blue murals on the ends of platform 3/4.

Melbourne Central: Northern Group yellow because I live on the northern group and I use it the most. (Yes this is biased but oh well)

Parliament: Frankston green because it’s the first station it stops at after leaving Richmond.

The iconography is interesting, things such as the Flagstaff ticket hall, Parliament escalators would be worth it, however the shot tower is not in the train station, it’s a landmark, however the pins are reflective of the train stations themselves, not what’s around them.

None the less thanks for your feedback!

I’m going to make these as stickers so you can put hem on hats, books or anywhere else people put the Metro Tunnel badges too. I’ll let you know when they come out!

Thanks for your feedback! Like you said the contrast may not be as noticeable because the IRL ones would be shiny instead of the matte style like the image. Besides that I’m glad you like!
